Office Quest

Description
Are you tired of being un-employed ? Have you ever considered what it would be like to NOT be dependent upon welfare ? To have aspirations and goals ? To be independent! To have a steady source of income! To be a constructive member of society! To have, what most would call “A Job” ?

Wonder no more my delusional friend, for I present to you the ultimate job simulator: Office Quest!

This game / parody / simulation / religious experience / epiphany / RL will quickly have you abandoning those dreams of self-worth by forcing you to endure what would be an average day in the life of an office worker.

You play as Dexter, a hapless accountant, on his mystical quest to prepare the monthly status report for his boss before COB Tuesday. It will be a perilous journey that will require you to use all of Deters deep arsenal of skills and abilities (Like Filling paper work, Sending emails, Writing memos, you know… that sort of stuff) just to survive!

And when you finally beat the game, achieve your goals, feel accomplished, motivated, proud of what you have done, guess what ? There will be a self-obsessed manager there to remind you how worthless you are, complain about how long it took you to do it and point out how much better of a job they could have done if they did it themselves. YAY! Just like a REAL job!

At least that’s what I intended it to be…. But then I realised I’m not a very good script writer….. and that reading dialogue for half hour straight is pretty boring….. So I jazzed it up with some random encounters (YEAH! Everybody loves those right!) and boss battles! Wooh!

Anyway this game was produced using RPG Maker VX Ace for the RPG Maker 2014 game maker contest. It was my first time using RPG Maker (I bought it during the humble bundle sale) and was able to produce a half decent (at least in my opinion) game in under a month, so I guess that makes it a pretty swell tool.

I don't have any expectations of winning anything with this submission but it was fun to make and I can now call myself a game developer, so that's defiantly something I can take away from it.

But if you really enjoyed the game and would like to let others know about it then feel free to vote for it on the contests website:

Credits for Art assets used are listed at the end of the game and I hope at least a few of you have fun playing :)

Cheers
Jacob
