Bandaid Mod

Description
Bring back the fun to NS2. This ultimate companion for your public server improves playability for your players, regardless of skill level!

This experimental mod aims to make NS2 more enjoyable for the majority of players. We do so with a healthy bit of nostalgia and respect for established game mechanics; This is fun as in less frustrating, not fun as in putting clown makeup on gorges and making them fart balloons.

Lets face it, your server is not filled with competitive players. If you favor having some fun over absolute balance, this is the mod for you!

Did this die forever ago?

This is feature suggested by a friend of mine, have you considered changing jetpack behavior? The current jetpack is more of a transportation device than an actual jetpack or jump jet; it's not fast enough to save you from a fade swipe or leaping skulk, and most people simply purchase one to get around the map faster and stay off the ground.

I'd suggest making the jetpack more dodging-oriented - faster take-off and speed in exchange for decreased fuel capacity and longer recharging, as well no jumping before actually taking off. This would have the effect of making the marines stay on the ground longer, instead of flying around with a grenade launcher in Cargo, completely invulnerable to lower-level players and a challenge for even veterans.

I believe this feature was part of a previous balance mod a few months back.

Have you tried giving Skulks "bunny hop", by which I mean (capped) speed boost from jumping on the floor?

I would strongly advise against nerf Skulk HP. They are already very low (too low even) against marines with decent aim. The max speed from wall jumping does feel too high though (10.5 default vs 11.5 with celerity), allowing skilled upgraded Skulks to plow through average marines.

theres also anther issue with catalyst packs where a single one can do more mulltiple marines at once. (if they're very close togather)

this seems to get rid of every problem I've had with the game so far

@Stickz thanks for the input. Catpack is now disabled on classic exos!

is there any chance catalyst packing exos could be disabled? thats extremely overpowered.

All the changes are experimental but we are doing this off the back of thousands of hours played, throughout the development of NS2 and we've taken feedback and ideas from a lot of different sources. The objective is to remove annoyances for your AVERAGE PLAYER and make the matches more fun and varied. We are also striving to reinforce the asymmetrical nature of the game; Marines rely on positioning and aim, Aliens; movement/approach and guerrilla-tactics.

With a game this complicated you need to experiment to find the best fixes to any design issue (and there is many). You only have to look at the official forums to see how wildly opinions vary about the game and certain issues. Its going to be impossible to please everyone so if its not for you right now then stick to vanilla and come check back later.

Funny you mention that specific change, it's been the most requested tweak. This mod is a bit self serving ofcourse, to each it's own. We think these changes will make it more fun.
