October Update
September Update 2
Release date: First quarter 2015
Death Road to Canada is a Randomized Permadeath Road Trip Simulator where every time you play, you're making a unique story. Your group of up to 5 survivors have to journey from Florida to Canada while dealing with starvation, personality conflicts, betrayal, and massive hordes of classic slow, lumbering wall of death zombies. Interactive Fiction Choose-Your-Own-Adventure elements are combined with action-adventure segments where you explore random cities, scavenge for supplies, find new survivors to recruit, and die horribly. This is all done in a colorful game world that doesn't take itself dark-and-gritty seriously.

  • Tons of replay value, with a focus on rare events, unusual situations, and Easter Eggs.
  • Survivors have their own random names, appearances, personalities, and other traits.
  • Robust Interactive Fiction segments, influenced by the personalities of your group.
  • Randomly generated cities you can explore for supplies, but watch out for hordes.
  • Rare Unique Survivors with their own appearances and special events.
  • Survivors keep track of their relationships in the group. It's up to you to prevent them from tearing each other apart.
  • Find and recruit dogs. Most dogs of any game on Greenlight. Rare special event where you can teach dogs how to drive the car.

We're in the stage of development where we're mostly tweaking things and adding content. We have a Kickstarter up to help with that process, which also has an extended video and lots more info. I can also answer any questions you have in the comments section.

Hey madgarden been tracking this for a while and i can't wait for it to come out. But just wondering what are you using to program this game and are you the sole person working on this game or just the sole programmer?

It hasn't been 2 years yet, POTATO MASTER.

@Flugsten I'm the sole programmer, I actually go by Madgarden out in the wild. Also collaborated with Rocketcat on Punch Quest (again, sole programmer) The rest of the official Rocketcat team isn't involved in Death Road. So yeah it's a bit confusing perhaps? But it's really just two people sharing design and one of them also programming, and some outside help for art and music.

@Kinjry Q2 is the hopeful release date... things are really clipping along well right now. Still it could take longer, it all depends on if we get everything we want in and bug-free by then etc. It's a game, so there's much variability in design due to that... making sure that it's good and fun and re-playable.
@Ratzigurat, So Q2 is the current projected release? No skin off my back! Hell take Q1 of 2016 if you need, So long as I can find out the games not a dead project, It has my support. And if I had discovered it sooner, it would of had my kickstarter support! ((sadly discovered this hopeful gem a bit too late to help kickstart it))

How comes you are only one developer, did you use to work as a team of three?
ratziggurat. When devs care, games become great.

Dr Tomorrow, YA RLY. Only one developer. And it's all way better and more intricate than originally planned. So it's just taking as long as it needs for us to do it right. Still it's pretty far along now, summer is looking good.
