Description
NOTICE: THE FAQ HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE DISCUSSIONS TAB.

Skyrim Unbound is an alternate start mod with a wide range of options. It allows the player to skip the opening sequence and choose whether or not to play as the Dragonborn.

Features:

• Choose your starting weapons, gear, and spells
• Select from dozens of starting locations in every hold, city, town, and inn (and more)
• Toggle dragons, random dragon spawns, dragon soul absorption, and shouts
• Avoid being forced into the main quest for non-Dragonborn characters
• Play through the Civil War quests right from the start of the game
• Removal of NPC dialogue regarding Helgen and the Dragonborn until the main quest has been started

! ! ! IMPORTANT ! ! !

BEFORE YOU COMMENT OR ASK FOR HELP, READ THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOD DESCRIPTION (INCLUDING THE FAQ) AND FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS IN THE TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION BELOW.

If you have questions about the mod, make sure you READ THE FAQ (now located in the discussions tab) first.

Skyrim Unbound does not require SkyUI to work. However, with it properly installed, you can toggle options during gameplay and have greater control over your starting options.

You can download SkyUI here:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=8122

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE SKYUI MOD DESCRIPTION BEFORE INSTALLING IT. Othwerise, you will not be able to open the mod configuration menu and Skyrim Unbound will not work.

If you do not use SkyUI, you will get a pop-up menu of options at game start. You will also get a shout that lets you toggle options during gameplay.

Skyrim Unbound needs to be as low in your load order as possible. If you have problems, SEE THE TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION BELOW.

DLC COMPATIBILITY

Skyrim Unbound is fully DLC compatible. DLC is not required.

MOD COMPATIBILITY

The Steam Workshop version of Skyrim Unbound is potentially incompatible with the Unofficial Skyrim Patch (as well as the Unofficial DLC Patches), anything that makes changes to the first half of the main quest, and mods that edit guard dialogue. Place Skyrim Unbound after these mods in your load order or manually install the loose scripts version from the link below.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Unless I can reproduce the problem on my end, your setup is wrong or you are experiencing a mod conflict. Before you ask for help, please make sure of the following:

• You understand BASIC SKYRIM MOD CONFLICT TROUBLESHOOTING. If you are new to modding, you'll want to start Googling things instead of asking me for help.
• Skyrim Unbound is downloaded, installed, activated, and you are using the absolute latest version
• Skyrim Unbound is as far down your load order as possible - use BOSS to sort it (you can download it at http://boss-developers.github.io/)
• If you are using SkyUI, you have SKSE installed properly and are using skse_loader.exe
• You've tried starting a new game (not loading a save, even if at the start of the game) to make sure the features work (updates usually won't take effect otherwise)
• You have tried running it with all other mods disabled to make sure there are no conflicts (and try waiting until after Skyrim Unbound is finished loading a new character to enable other mods)

If all else fails, manually install the "loose scripts" version from the link below. (I recommend using a mod manager to do this.)

MANUAL DOWNLOAD/INSTALL / "LOOSE SCRIPTS" VERSION

You can always download the latest version here:
http://www.chinagreenelvis.com/gaming/mods/skyrim/skyrim_unbound/

I suggest you use the Nexus Mod Manager[skyrim.nexusmods.com] for installs of all mods that contain loose files, as it will tell you which mods you are overwriting when conflicts arise.

UNINSTALLING THE MOD

• Unsubscribe via the Steam Workshop
• Manually delete Skyrim Unbound.exp and Skyrim Unbound.bsa from your Skyrim/data directory
• If you installed the loose scripts version, make sure you delete the Skyrim Unbound script files from your Skyrim/data/scripts directory
• Begin a new game

BOSS placed Skyrim Unbound in the right place, but I haven't taken a close enough look at LOOT to be sure.

I'm not sure. I used LOOT to sort my mods.

Did you try it with Skyrim Unbound lower than them in the load order? Or with the loose scripts version? That should take care of any conflicts.

turns out uninstalling unofficial patches and guard dialogue overhaul fixed the problem. i didn't realize they were incompatible. thanks!

ibuildpixels: I don't think I can reproduce that problem. Have you tried going through the steps in the troubleshooting section of the FAQ first?

OK

If I pick any other location to spawn at besides solitude it causes no solitude guards to spawn at the entrance. For example: Start new game in solitude, walk out, there are solitude guards at the gate entrance. However, starting a new game at whiterun and going to solitude causes no guards to spawn. please note it ONLY happens at the gate and not in the actual city.

In the FAQ, I recommend against loading old saves with Skyrim Unbound installed. However, several users have reported that it doesn't cause any problems. Backup a copy of your save game from before Skyrim Unbound was installed just in case.

Can you have more than one game at once in Skyrim? For example, I want to make a new game using this, but I don't want to lose the game I have spent 150 hours playing.

I don't know what you're talking about. Seeds?

Start a new game. Open the mod configuration menu. Change your mod settings the way you like them. Save the game.

Then open Skyrim Unbound's menu, and start your game. Any time you want to create a new character, go back to that save game. Unless, of course, you've uninstalled any mods or updated them, in which case it's always best to start an entirely new game.

Either way, I'll add a quick start option in the next version.
