Introduction
PvP in terraria can be very fun and unique due to it's building aspects. This series of guides will explore every corner of terraria PvP, so you can go out and destroy everyone. You will find the most diverse and interesting PvP on the steam group Odyssey PvP: Odyssey PvP Link

Items in Terraria
There are many item types in terraria which help you in one way or another. Accesories, armour and potions are the main types and do a lot of different things. The more of these items you have the stronger you will be, but you can be limited, either by in game limitations or by items you can get in a game mode. This guide will go in depth through all the items and how to use them well.
Accesories
You are limited to 5 accesories, but you can combine some to create more space. Accesories are your main sorce of movement but there are other ways to gain movement and loads of accesories which do loads of other things.

Movement Accesories
Movement in terraria is 2 directional, up/down and left/right. Most of the items here either boost vertical or horizontal movement. Having good movement speed will make it easier to dodge/avoid attacks, to chase other people and complete gamemode objectives faster.

Aglet and Anklet of the Wind - These increase your maximum speed horizontally, or if you are wearing hermes boots, your acceleration to maximum speed. 5% and 10% may not sound like much but it does help and you might get to certain place faster, like the top of the hill, giving you an advatage. It is nothing big but nothing bad either.

Hermes Boots - Hermes Boots increases your maximum speed greatly, but you need to accelerate to the speed first by walking without stopping. To get them going it is best to predict where you will land and jump to not get caught up by blocks. The speed they give will help a lot and you will get to places faster with less chance of fighting and dying.

Shiny Red Balloon - It increases how high you jump by a few blocks. It is not much but does help you climb up and reach places easier and faster, though in some rare cases it can make jumps harder. The vertical movement boost makes dodging a bit easier and you can fire from a higher position too. Be careful using them in water as they make you jump less in liquids.

Cloud in a Bottle - It gives you the ability to double jump so you can reach a few blocks higher. As you can choose when to double jump it is easier to dodge with the bottle than with the balloon. You can make slightly harder jumps with it and you can also use it stop fall damage by double jumping before you hit the ground.

Cloud in Balloon - This is the combination of the Balloon and Cloud, and has both effects stacked so you can jump really high, to the point where dodgin is really easy. It makes close range combat much easier as you have a lot of area to move in.

Rocket Boots - You get to have little boosts from it, raising you a little with each one, making you be able to rise higher than the cloud in a balloon. You can avoid falling to your death with it and float a little in mid air and dodge really well with it. They can let you access a lot of areas quickly which can change a lot in some game modes.

Spectre Boots - Combines the effects of hermes boots and rocket boots, making them the most useful movement accesory.

Angel and Demon Wings - They are both the same with a different colour. They let you fly the highest and prevent fall damage. The flight time makes it really easy to stay in the air and dodge everything, and you can easily fly over people in open areas.

Defensive Accesories
There are several accesories which will help you defend, though none give much to your defense stat.

Cobalt Shield - Probably the best accesory, it will prevent you from being knocked back, which will free you up a lot and changes how a lot of the weapons work. It blocks a lot of stuff a lot of weapons do like mentioned in the weapons guide.

Star Cloak - If you get hit with this on you will create stars to fall on top of you which does some damage. It will do some damage if you fight at close range, and if you plan to fight underneath other people you can catch other people with your stars which is often very surprising to guy getting hurt.

Lucky Horseshoe - It prevents fall damage, which will help a lot depending on the layout of where you are. It lets you leave behind the worry of falling down and you can easier fall down and catch people, especially useful if you are close range.

Shackle - It gives one defense, which is not much at all and half the time literally changes nothing, but you might as well use one if you have one and a spare slot.

Obsidian Skull - It lets you walk on hot blocks, like hellstone, allow more freedom to move in some places. It can be combined with the shield or horseshoe.

Offensive Accesories
A few accesories will let you kill people faster, which is always good.

Emblems - There is an emblem for each class of damage, increasing damage by 15% which is quite a lot. This increase can change a lot and give you a better chance of killing someone.

Feral Claws - It increases your melee speed a bit, which will make your swords swing faster and make spears/flails/bommerangs reach further, increasing your range and killing abilities, a very good accesory to have if you are using melee items.

Moon Charm - This increases a lot of melee and movement stats during a full moon. It is rare to have it working but will give a big boost if you are using melee during a full moon.

Regenertaion Accesories
Regenerating your health and mana faster is really helpful and can help you fight more.

Band of Regeneration - It increases the speed you regenerate health, it does't do much but it can do a lot if you have a long break between fights.

Band of Starpower - Gives you more mana, basically a mana crystal, in most balanced PvP you won't have 10 mana crystals anyway.

Nature's Gift and Mana Flower - They reduce how much mana your magic weapons use, basically increasing your maximum mana. Similiar to the band of star power, useful if using magic. You can use the mana flower to automatically let you drink mana potions if you are using them but using a shortcut key is just as easy, making the mana flower useless if you have mana potions.

Philospher's Stone - If you have potions, this item will be amazing. The 15 seconds it takes off cooldown between using health potions will let you regenerate health much faster and can often make a lot of difference to if you die.

Swimming Accesories
Accesories are needed to increase movemnt in water a lot.

Flippers - You will be able to mvoe freely in water as if you were flying, giving you a huge advantage when fighting in water.

Diving Gear - It gives you the movement boost flippers do but you can stay in water longer, very useful for long fights underwater.

Neptune's Shell - The best underwater accesory, it greatly increases you speed underwater and you can stay there forever, you will dominate underwater with one of these.

Other Accesories
There are a lot of useless accesories for PvP, and a few which can be pretty situational.

Toolbelt - Will let you build with a larger reach, surpringly good in some games where you can build.

Cross Necklace - It doesn't work for PvP damage but if you are fighting with mobs too, or with a damaging environment like spikes it will give you a longer time to stay invincible when you get damaged so you will survive a bit longer.

All the other accesories serve practically no purpose in PvP.

Prefixes
Accesories have prefixes, which increase either damage, defense, crit chance, movement speed, melee speed or maximum mana. Damage is by far the best choice as it is doubled in PvP, defense can work if you are trying to be a tank, and increasing melee speed can be good for doing melee damage. Mana increase is also good if you're limited on mana.
Armour
Armour focuses mainly on giving you more defense, which is a very useless stat especially in PvP. they do give certain opther bonuses, some of which can be very useful.

Low Tier Armour
Copper to Gold armour will only give defense, which is nice but doesn't give you much. It can help in low tier PvP sometimes but it's not the first thing you would want. Minig armour gives very little defense but will give let you mine faster which is not bad when you can build, and the light it gives can be very helpful, but can also give you away.

Mid Tier Armour
There is a lot of variety in the mid tier armours and they are all specialised to a certain class and have some neat effects.

Necro Armour - It boosts your range damage a lot, really good if you are using ranged items of course. The set bonus to not use ammo sometimes if rarely useful unless you have limited ammo which is rare in PvP.

Meteor Armour - It boosts your magic damage a lot, the magic version of necro armour. It always makes it so you can use the space gun infinately. Mana doesn't regenerate when you use the space gun with it though, but it doesn't decrease. Getting full meteor and space can be really strong.

Jungle Armour - Increases your maximum mana, and gives you mana reduction costs. More useful when you have very limited mana, but generally meteor armour is more effective for magic.

Shadow Armour - Makes you move faster, which is pretty helpful but it also greatly increases your melee attack speed, making swords do a lot more damage and giving you a lot more range with your other melee items.

Molten Armour - It gives you a lot of defense, enough to even counter the amount of extra damage some of the other sets give. It also increases your melee damage, definately making it better than shadow armour.

High Tier Armour
Hardmode brings use back to linear armour again, which is not very fun, but each set has different hats for each class which is pretty cool. Each tier of ore gives more defense, with the melee hat giving a lot on top.

Cobalt Armour - The leggings will give you some nice movement speed, the magic hat will increase how much mana you can use and the melee will increase melee and movement speed, both pretty useful. Also the ranged hat gives extra ranged damage, so all of the cobalt gear is useful.

Mythril Armour - Again some small stat changes, the chainmail gives 5% extra damage which is good, and all the hats give extra damage to their class. The mythil hood gives the most extra magic damage out of all the hardmode hats so if you have mana potions of aren't worried about mana it's the best hat to use.

Adamantite Armour - At this point I'm just spewing out the same stuff again, slightly better stats than before, nothing special.

Hallowed Armour - Generally the best armour, has most of the best stat increases, rememebr though there aern't critical hits in PvP so you can save yourself a few percent damage if you use an adamantite breastplate.

Single Piece Armous
There are a few helmets which aren't part of a set, most of them don't do much.

Wizard Hat - Actually a very good hat, increases magic damage by 15%, as much as full meteor does.

Diving Helmet - Will let you stay underwater longer, rarely helpful in combat but it's still rpetty enat.

Goggles and Empty Bucket - Both only give one defense, so almost no need to use them, though you can use the bucket to move liquids around if you are able to, but I will go into that more in another guide.
Potions
Potions do a lot of different things, most will give you all sorts of buffs but some healing you and some give you more mana. Healing potions are very helpful in keeping you alive and a lot of potions can change a lot of things.

Healing Potions and Items
There are quite a few items that restore 15-25 hp, and then the potions which restore a lot more. Healing will let you stay alive longer. It is best to heal as soon as possible, as soon as you have lost more health than you can heal before getting maximum health you should heal, that way you should be able to heal again faster. Using a philospher's stone helps this a lot as well. Of course you should be using the quick heal key to heal yourself easier.

Mana Potions
Mana potions will instantly give you more mana, if you have a lot of mana potions you can use magic items endlessly, making them much better. Restoration potions give you health too, so there is a cooldown between using them, and they don't givwe as much health as greater healing potions so be careful using them. If you are limited with mana potions save them for an important time where killing someone or staying alive is very important to win.

Buff Potions and Items
Buff potions will give lot's of cool effects and some are pretty unique. You can also get buffs from a few things other than potions, the Moon charm and Neptune's Shell give you a buff to do what it does. You can have a maximum of 10 buffs and debuffs so you can be limited by this.

Archery Potion - Increases your arrow speed and damage, gives you a good advantage if you are using a bow.

Featherfall Potion - Increases your jumping height to 3 levels, giving you a lot of control over your movement and letting you jump very high, which is very good for dodging and moving to places.

Gills Potion - Let's you breathe underwater, but you can't out of water. Rarely useful but you can try to sneak them into other peoples inventory and sometimes if youre lucky they won't notice and die or at least take some damage.

Gravitation Potion - Let's you change which way gravity works on you, so you can fall upwards and walk on ceilings. Extremely useful as you can have infinite flight and dodge very well, it is the best potion to have.

Invisibility Potion - Makes you become invisible, people can still see armour unless you use familair clothes though. It make it really hard for people to hit you though you can't use weapons and a lot of other items without giving yourself away. Still it lets you become very stealthy.

Ironskin Potion - Gives you 8 extra defense, nothing very good but still pretty helpful.

Magic Power Potion - Increases your magic damage by a bit, a very good buff if you are using magic weapons.

Mana Regenertation Potions - Will let you regenerate mana much faster, it makes you be able to use mana weapons much more often.

Night Owl Potion - Brigthens everything up, will help you out in some situations where there are dark areas and people are hiding.

Obsidian Skin Potion - Immunity to lava, giving you access to lava areas and makes using the lava bucket much less risky.

Regeneration Potion - Regenerates your health much faster, much faster than the band of regen. Really good if you can stay out of combat for some time.

Shine Potion - You will emit light, so you can see well in the darkness, but you will be easy to notice for other enemies so use when you don't expect enemies.

Swiftness Potion - Increases your speed by a lot, one of the best items for horizontal mobility.

Water Walking Potion - Lets you walk on water and lava, increasing your mobility where there's liquids and protectes you from lava that isn't moving.

Ale - It actually gives you a debuff as it decreases your defense by 4, but that makes a very little difference. It greatly increases your melee damage so is always worth it if you are using any sort of melee weapon.

Bowl of Soup - Boosts a lot of different stats, always something good to have and increases magic damage by quite a lot, along with some melee damage.

Crystal Ball - Not a potion but an item you can click to get the clairvoyance buff, making it very good if you have team mates. It increases a lot of magic stats and is very useful if you are using magic.

Orb of Light and Fairy Bell - they both produce a light source that follows you around. The orb is very dim and the fairy bell isn't very bright either. They follow you around so the light is behind you, they aren't very useful compared to a shine potion but they can be used infinetly. They take mana to use but they still work if you have no mana at all.
Other Items
The last few items which cause some cool things to happen. There are a lot of items in terraria and most of them can be used in one way or another in PvP but I don't want to list off every possible thing.

Life Crystals
Life crystals increase your maximum health, so they change a lot and how long you can survive. They're fairly simple but play a big part in PvP.

Hooks
You can use hooks to grapple to blocks, bring you to them really fast. You can grapple onto a block to prevent knockback, and you can outspeed hermess boots with them. The mobility they provide is really high.

Grappling Hook - The most basic hook, with a short range and does nothing special.

Ivy Whip - You can fire a second and third hook after you have grappled with your first one, and they will all stay so you will be in the cntre of them. They have more range than the grappling hook but de-graplling can be awkward and it is not the best for mobility. It is good for navigating dangerous areas but you will be a sitting duck if you try using all the 3 hooks.

Dual Hook - It has a slightly longer reach than the ivy whip but de-graplling is much more effective and you can fire a second hook without waiting for the first making it the best hook for moving around quickly. You should be using this hook most of the time when you have a choice.

Other Items
The last few unique items that don't fit in the other catergories.

Magic Mirror - It uses mana so you can teleport back home, which occasionally is useful in PvP if you want to move position, through getting killed on purpose might be better as you respawn with full health, though it doesn't work when you're not softcore.

Dirt Rod - Very rarely used item, it can move dirt really far away. Because of TShock glitches its range is limited on servers. Can be good for slowing be down but a very rare item to see in PvP.
More PvP
This guide only touches terraria PvP, there are a lot of other aspects which I will cover in other guides, the next one will be about the PvP mechanics in terraria.

Even though this is pretty long there is quite a bit more I could of added, if you think there is anything important I missed or any other errors in the guide please do say. Comments will help me make better guides in the future, thank you.
