Commander Keen - Screen Configuration
By Hren-kun
Hello folks!
I've some issues playing this awesome old-school game in fullscreen, so after changing resolution that I got is a very tiny screen, so it's impossible to play!
But after doing some experiments, I’ve found a solution to fix this. Hope this will help!
P.S.: This solution requires lot of modifications, so prepare to change and delete some main files.

DosBox
First of all, we should update DosBox that includes in this pack. Download latest version from http://www.dosbox.com and install it. Copy the main file (dosbox.exe) and replace it in all “base” folders in Commander Keen.
Now you can delete "dosbox-0.71.tar.gz & dosbox.conf” from all game folders, we don’t need them anymore.
First step done, you can have a little break.
Editing
Now go to the main section (…/common/commander keen) and change every .bat files with native Windows notepad.
IMPORTANT!
“X” – Number of Keen game or app. You should carefully edit files with this note.
So this is before editing:
.\baseX\dosbox .\baseX\keenXe.exe -conf .\baseX\keenX.conf -fullscreen –exit
exit

Delete –conf and –fullscreen.
This is after editing:
.\baseX\dosbox .\baseX\keenXe.exe .\baseX\keenX.conf -exit
Exit

Also, don’t forget to edit all of “testappX.bat” with these examples.
Conclusion
If you want to play directly from steam icon, you should delete every ”keenX.conf” in all “baseX” folders.
Now lunch any game from Complete Pack and press alt+enter.
Now you should have a normal sized window. Enjoy playing and also thanks for your attention!
Plus now game lost its weight :)

Thank you for this guide. I tried everything you said, but it didn't work for me. I found an easier way is to just open ”keenX.conf” with Notepad and edit the "windowresolution" to 1280x960 or any other 4:3 ratio that you like, and "fullresolution" to match your own screen's max resolution (in case you were having issues with fullscreen like I was). These helped me find the way:

Can anyone help me?
I'm trying to get CK to even install on my Macbook Pro (10.13.6). I just got a DOSbox wrapper from a forum on another site (NeoGAF) & *tried* to follow the instructions, which involve dragging the CK files to the wrapper. BUT- Steam won't let me install the CK games, so there ARE no files I can drag over...
Then I found + got Boxer, but it looks like I'm facing a similar problem? Steam will not let me install.
Also, I'm new to this (obvs) so 'instructions for dummies' would be immensely helpful! ;)

I have no problem to launch it in fullscreen, but the game is 4:3 and my screen is 16:9, so everything looks streched and distorted, how am I going to change that? Best would be just to get it started in windowed mode .. but 3-400% bigger, so you can actually see what you do. Is this possible somehow?
