My first submission to the Workshop and my first attempt at making a completely original* character model from start to finish. This was modeled in 3dsMax, sculpted in Mudbox, textured using Photoshop+Mudbox and compiled with the help of WallWormModelTools.

I tried to make the model as "fairly" as possible so that players using this skin would not find themselves at any advantage or disadvantage in the game, visibility should be very comparable to the original tank model. The model is slightly higher poly than valves original tank (6812 instead of 5810) mostly due to my personal incompetence and the added detail on the fingernails, toe mails and eyes - but I would not expect any noticable performace difference.

I am releasing this as a beta version because although this is fully functional in its current format there is definitely still room for some improvements to be made, mostly concerning the rigging (animations) and texture mapping.

For fun I also made some minor edits to the tanks theme music and one or two tank sounds - with my game settings it makes little difference, however if people would prefer this model with the original tank sounds then please let me know and I will post another version.

As this is in the beta phase all feedback would be more than welcome, and especially any advice or input from more experienced modelers.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my first submission, gm_tank!

*All work is totally original with the exception of the mesh for the fingers, which was derived from the original tank model for rigging simplicity and the eyeball texture which was borrowed from another special infected.

good mod, but i wont sub for it because of the tank mouth... thats the only bad part.... well maybe it needs pants also. but other than that it looks cool and your on the right track. ill fav it tho but no sub... sorry :/

This tank is cool, he is more of a cartoon character than his default regular appearance.

Workshop manager finally worked!! Updated this version of gm_tank with fixed normalmap and better rigging for animations. Also have uploaded a version WITHOUT CUSTOM SOUNDS HERE:

its scary but in the lfd2 game tanks are supposed to be scary so i'll subscribe to get it :D

I am sorry that I am unable to offer these updates here atm (I will keep trying). For those who think its wrong that the Workshop is so bugged, please complain to Valve, because I am NOT the only person suffering from this problem.

Finally "gm" has nothing to do with Garry's Mod, that never occured to me. I have always released my work under the name "gmaps". I often use the prefix abbrivation "gm" so I can quickly recognize my work/content and in the case of this tank I thought it was especially approproiate due to the accronym for "Genetically Modified". So I guess gm_tank is for "Gamp's Genetically Modified Tank"! :)
