THE GAME:

Iya, a middle-school student, is out for a walk one evening, yet as she strolls down the street there is a blinding flash, and next thing the knows - she's in the middle of a forest. What happened? Can she find a way home? Why is the wildlife so weird and hostile, and why are the woods full of abandoned ruins? Where is she, or better yet - when.

Legend of Iya (LOI) is a 2D, story-driven metroidvania game in development for Windows PC. The game features top-shelf pixel art graphics and animation reminiscent of 16 and early 32-bit era, with lush, varied environments, tons of animation and detail, and some crazy-huge setpieces. In addition to traditional pixel animation the game features huge modular bosses and enemies. Majority of the in-game combat is melee-based, but the character can collect and use various magical-ish powers to give her ranged attacks as well as supernatural abilities.

Planned features:

* A vast, labyrinthine world reminiscent of the classics like Super Metroid and Castlevania SOTN.
* Full soundtrack by Magnus "Philter" Gangstad. (if Kickstarter succeeds)
* High quality graphics - like the best SNES could offer. None of that crude hipster-pixel here!
* Tons upon tons of quality sprite animation! Like, seriously - the player alone already has somewhere in the vicinity of 500 frames.
* Chunky pixels! The game runs in a 256x192 native resolution of pixelated retro goodness. (might be bumped up to 320x200 at some point)
* Dozens of new powers, upgrades and secrets to discover and collect.
* Juggle-tastic melee combat.
* Massive boss battles and set-pieces.
* A bunch of extras, like a recoded version of the ZX Spectrum-original Legend of Iya!

Ofcourse the project is alive. I have released a number of Kickstarter updates detailing the situation.
Also - everyone who backed the game on Kickstarter and Paypal got a copy of Mystik Belle, a game I have developed to support further LOI progress.

I'm not exactly sure what happened but he seems to still be around. He released a different game on steam and I think is going back to developing this game.

This is pure speculation, as I'm not a backer, but it seems he got scammed and has been building back up the time/funds to continue working on this.

I'm not sure though, there are posts on greenlight that I can't view that detail the status of the project.

Hello, dev. Can you confirm the status of this project? Your silence makes me believe this is vaporware.

Phew. Glad I didn't help Kickstart this!

Is this project still alive? Has been almost two years since new info was revealed. Are the devs on difficulties on the development? Hope you announce a release date soon enough. Thanks.

@Sagretti

Interesting. I like how he gives no details whatsoever then says "I really hope you understand my situation."

Aaaaand. Backers got fucked.

This is why I have never and will never back a project on Kickstarter.

This was posted by the developer on the Kickstarter page February 9th:

"I am preparing a LOI update that is not all great news - nothing horrible - the game is still being made, and the backers are still getting everything they have opted for.
Partially as a result of my own inexperience as a business-person, as well as malicious third party (can't name names - I can't afford to get sued), the project hit a rough patch, so In order to keep it going I had to do a quick side-project that all backers of $10+ will get for free.
My sincerest apologies. I really hope you understand my situation."

The promised update has not appeared yet.

Hi ! Can you give us some news please ?

Is LoI still in development? KS backer here, wondering whats happening after all this time? No updates since Jul '14. Did you give up on all of us and Iya?
Tyrarius Jan 31 @ 2:02pm
