Description
Followers & hirelings can now ride horses instead of running behind. You can buy them from any of the city stables. Just mount your own horse and your companion will mount theirs. The companion's horse will track the player's horse to prevent them from getting lost. A Horse Call mod is recommended.

Important: This update fixes a bug that prevented Gold being added to your inventory when selling the horse.
Also, If you have earlier version, make a clean save (with the two plugins unselected) before using this version so updates come into effect. Read the Bill of Sale received when you buy a new horse. Read it again to make changes to the horse.

This mod makes horses available for companions - for a price. They can be purchased at all city stables.

The horse will be owned by the “current Follower or player Faction”, which means that even if you change
followers, there is no need to buy a new horse for each one. Companion horses are set to avoid
combat, so they should survive better. Also they will follow the player horse, taking advantage of horse call type mods.

Mod Compatibility
----------------------
Better Horses mod - Only a minor problem. If you set horses to a non-vanilla price, the dialogue to buy the follower's
horse will not run properly. You can either reset the price to vanilla levels (1000 gold) using the book supplied by BetterHorses or just use the Ledger book found at all stables.

Known Issues
------------
1) Horses will Follow the player's horse IF the players horse is the original since game start. When the players horse dies and is respawned, the AI to follow it will not attach to the new horse. When Bethesda fixes a bug with aliases, then this should no longer cause a problem. Until then, either buy a new horse that is not a respawned. It is possible to resurrect player horses without causing a problem.

2) The horses should no longer display a red "steal" when you look at them. However, if your followers have a horse already, you may need to uncheck the two plugins, make a clean save, and select the plugin again. Or... you could kill the horse and buy a new one - but I'll leave that to your conscience.

3) The horse will not return to stables if the follower rides a different horse.

4) Sometimes you will only see the topic to buy the players horse and the topic to buy the companion a horse is missing. This is caused by either quest interference or old version of skyrim. If this happens, use the ledger book to buy the companions horse. Don't make the mistake of buying two player horses, thinking its the companions horse. They will ride it, but it will cause problems.

5) The companion & their horse will now fast travel with the player. However, there are restrictions:
- Both player and follower must be dismounted.
- If you have more than one companion horse, all horses will teleport with you (This does not apply to the player's horse)
- Avoid fast travel to citys. Fast travel to near the city instead. Otherwise, the follower's horse will teleport inside the city gates at the moment. If you have done this accidently, then use the Bill of Sale to teleport the horse to your location.

6) Delayed AI. Sometimes the companion delays getting on / off the horse. This is because the game engine only checks the AI stack every so often, but it can potentially be forced to evaluate the AI by script. Unlike Oblivion however, there is no

obvious script functions to monitor when the player mounts / dismounts, even though it exists as a condition for AI in the stack. I hope Bethesda will upgrade the script functions to allow this. If I can find another way, I will implement it.

For now, just dismount your horse and don't wait for the companion to dismount. The companion will eventually.

Q&A:

Q1: My companion/follower will not ride the horse I just bought for them. Why not?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A1: Make sure the plug-in “BetterFollowerImprovements.esp” is selected as well as
“HorsesForFollowers”. They work together and are really one mod. They got separated for developmemt reasons.

A2: Sometimes, a currently active quest will occasionally override the main follower routine. Nothing can be done unless those interfereing quest are known to me Also, see if selecting another quest will help, and let me know the result.

Remember I can't test it unless it happens to me. I can go through every quest and every script but that will take a lot of time. Please tell me which quest is currently active in your Journal - especially if it suddenly happens to you.

A3: Another mod could be conflicting with this one. If so, try switching the load order so this mod loads later. This may then cause problems for other mods so you need to judge whats best for your game. Try loading my mod only using a clean save. This means unchecking my mod, make a save, check my mods back in (both plugins).

Q2: My follower is from another mod, will he/she be able to ride these horses?

A1: As for the "Horses For Followers.esp", the companion needs to be a member of the Current Followers Faction.
This can be done using the console commands. Select the non-vanilla follower in the console. Type:
AddToFaction CurrentFollowerFaction 1
If you need to remove the non-vanilla companion from the faction, select him/her/it and type:
RemoveFromFaction CurrentFollowerFaction.

A2: However its the "BetterFollowerImprovements" that makes the follower ride the horse. If the non-vanilla companion uses the same system as vanilla followers. This means they are controlled by the "DialogueFollower" quest form and they fill the "Follower" alias provided by it. Make sure "BetterFollowerImprovements" loads later by altering the load order.

A3: If the non-vanilla follower is not using the quest form above, you need to add Follow type AI packages that enable riding to the Companion mod you are using. Or ask the mods creator how to do this.

No "buy horse for companion" is coming up. I have both of the mod's required is this common or a glitch?

<Last post. Please read first two comments for this to make sense.> It is possible that this may be beyond what the author can do. But, I have some suggestions. Modified stables that we can park our horses at near Windhelm. Another idea is stables placed on the island that our horses fast travel to. We get off the boat and we meet up with them there. I don't know if any of these ideas would work. But, I put them out there incase they might be of some help. I really like this mod. For now I will just unclick them and finish up the quest line, then later add them. Please let me know of any updates. The author of this mod may add me for that reason. I think it is going in the right direction and like to see it progress:)

<Please read my comment below first> So far everything works fine in vanilla Skyrim. But, it doesn't seem compatible with Dragonborn yet. I was unable to successfully travel with out problems. First time we traveled, both of us dismounted. When we got there, only his horse showed up on the boat, but not mine. I went back to Windhelm and we met up with our horses at the stables. Both of us were able to mount our horses successfully. So I thought to try fast traveling while both on our horses. Did not work out so well. I was the only one on the boat. Went back and I was standing on the boat and he was mounted on his but was stuck in the boat. Fortunatly I had saved a point before installing and adding his horse.
