Weapons and Weapon Orbs

This guide will show what all the weapons look like, where to obtain them and give some secret tips.

Weapons Overview

There are eight weapons in the game that the player can acquire. As the player progresses through the story they will naturally receive all of these weapons. Upgrading weapons are done through obtaining Weapon Orbs and taking them to Watts, the blacksmith. Some weapons can also be upgraded from finding Weapon Orbs inside of chests throughout different areas in the game. Each weapon orb obtained will be highlighted as a single red circle in the weapon's menu. When a weapon reaches level nine the name will turn red. Level nine weapons, including level eight knuckle/axe, can be found as rare drops from certain monsters on the Mana Fortress. Each weapon has been broken down as to what they look like, what they can provide to the player and where they can be found.

In order to receive full credit for all level nine weapons, and unlocking the achievement, the player must find all level nine weapon orbs and upgrade each weapon. See the Mana Sword section for further details as the final upgrade for the sword is not a rare chest drop. For these achievements, the player is not required to have all the characters be level eight, skillfully trained, with each weapon.

Increasing Rare Drop Odds

There is a way to eliminate traps and increase your odds of receiving a rare drop instead. Using ANALYZE on a chest will cause a red color aura to appear, signifying that it is an item. Each monster typically has a regular drop which usually is a useable item. The rare drop will be either equipment or a weapon orb, depending on the monster. Using this spell is also a great way to find chests if they are out of view. At level 50+ the player will start to receive shadow zeros from treasure chests. This can also decrease odds if the player is not using analyze.

The Sprite's Spear

Most players, when they progress through the game, typically upgrade all their weapons on the weapon orb basis. However, speed runners and some veteran players will keep the spear at level three for the rest of the game. The reason for this is because it has the ability to cause enemies to Space Out or also known as ballooning. When an enemy is ballooned it will literally have a balloon attached to its head and be rendered completely vulnerable.

This is invaluable for getting past annoying areas or making combat much simpler. The player is not obligated to upgrade weapons but having under-leveled weapons does result in low damage output against higher level enemies.

In this case, the Sprite's Spear becomes more of a useful tool. Despite stacking weapons orbs, the player can always upgrade later if they desire. If the player upgrades their weapon, it can not be undone.

This same tactic can also be used with the level 4 and level 6 javelin. Both javelins have the ability to balloon enemies, however, the javelin is not as effective at hitting multiple enemies as the spear is.

Level 9 Sword

Spoiler Alert - (Hover over blackout to reveal)

The level 9 can only be legitmately obtained at the final battle with the Mana Beast. During the fight, the third Dryad sword magic will be unlocked for both the Sprite and the Girl. If the player casts both swords magics on the Hero it will transform the sword into the Mana Sword. This counts towards unlocking all level 9 weapons.

Tsunani looks like a cyan colored blob with arms. They can be found inside the Mana Fortress on the first floor. If the player is relatively close they will cast level seven Undine magic. Their rare drop is the Spear Weapon Orb and will also drop the Watcher's Ring. They will feel easy to hit to the player because their evasion is about the equivalent to a Rabbite

Level 8 and 9 Knuckle Weapon Orb

		Type: Undead Element: Shade Magic: Lv. 7 Moon Saber, Lv. 7 Lunar Boost Weakness: Lumina Magic Wolf Lord's are powerful enemies that look like a large wolf with golden hair and wearing a black gi. Their attack power is high enough to finish off most under leveled players. If they buff themself with Moon Saber and Lunar Boost, this can cause havoc for even higher level players. Critical hits are usually fatal. They drop the Faerie's Ring and rarely drop the Knuckle weapon orb.

Level 8 and 9 Axe Weapon Orb

		Type: Undead Element: Shade Magic: Lv. 5 Evil Gate, Lv. 7 Lava Wave Ability: Spawns Dark Stalkers Weakness: Lumina Magic Fiend Heads look like gray and purple versions of their cousin, Fierce Head, from the Palace of Darkness. They have decent evasion and will avoid taking a few hits. A relatively easy way to farm this monster is to hit them once with a weapon and then with a level eight Earth Slide. This should kill or almost finish them off. They drop the Vampire Cape and will rarely drop the Axe weapon orb.

Metal Crabs are blue and yellow versions of the crabs encountered from the Upperlands. They can be found immediately entering the Mana Fortress. Their evasion is relatively low for later in the game and should not avoid too many hits from the player. They drop the Vestgaurd and will rarely drop the Bow weapon orb.

Master Ninja's will rarely drop this weapon orb. They look like a golden color version of the Dark Stalkers and can be found on the third floor of the Mana Fortress. Farming can only require reentering a room and casting level eight Earth Slide. This should instantly kill them. Because it takes time to travel to their spawns, it is highly recommended to return to a save point as soon as possible, after obtaining a weapon orb. This is to mitigate the chances for the game to crash and having to re-farm.

Mace Menace can be somewhat troublesome, given by the name. Typically, the first thing they will do is cast level seven Lucid Barrier on them self as soon as the player enters the room. This makes them temporarily immune from all physical attacks. They are located on the third floor of the Mana Fortress. An easy way to farm these monsters is to cast level eight Rock Slide or Dark Force on them. This should kill them instantly. They drop the Faerie Crown and will rarely drop the Whip weapon orb. It is strongly recommended that the player immediately head back and save their game after obtaining the weapon orb. This is to mitigate chances for the game crashing and having to re-farm.

Whimper is a golden version of the previously encountered Weepy Eye. They are one of the first enemies encountered when entering inside the Mana Fortress. They do have the ability to turn the player into a Moogle with their gaze attack. A relatively easy way to farm this monster is to cast level eight Earth Slide on them before they cast Wall. They will drop the Power Suit and rarely drop the Javelin weapon orb.

As a note, the whip and the fist weapons level 3 are reversed, you get the level 3 fist in moogle village and the whip in the submarine chest.

first wolf lord killed, was farming the eyes and was heading out after getting the other orb
then first kill on way out dropped one, got alot of equipment drops near first kills too 0-0

Those damned Fiend Heads won't drop anything. Oddly enough though, back when I played the original game they did drop a sword orb for me and I got the top sword. I vaguely recall it had a green tint to it.

The Javelin orb is really hard to get. I killed like 1000 Whimpers and still am waiting for the drop. Already threw away 16 Power Suits x_X

Oop, just made a mistake. Going through again, I've found that the Spear Orb in Santa's House is there on the way to the Ice Palace, so it's just there to collect, not as a reward.
