1954 Endurance Sports Cars (modded Cobra)

Description
Based on the original ISI/Studio397 1967 427 Cobra, modified by woochoo & mantasisg to resemble a classic French 24-hour endurance race from 1954 (there were no Cobras in 1954).

Modified:
- Race-appropriate liveries
- Physics have been significantly developed by mantasisg , starting from the limited initial weight/inertia/gears/engines changes by woochoo.
- Brakes (most cars have pseudo drum brakes: prone to fade)
- AI have been tweaked by mantasisg
- Several evocative body meshes have been pushed and pulled from the original 427 Cobra mesh (and some added parts like fairings and fins).
- Additional headlights.
- Slightly modified Cobra driver model and new helmet/goggles, with some specific helmet colours.
- Sounds tweaked to lengthen audible distance, and louder backfires, and some other minor changes.
- Classes implemented (s8.0, s5.0, s3.0, s2.0, s1.5, s1.1, s0.75) for opponent selection and results classification.
- UI Menu listing changed (1954 Endurance) and sub-categorised by class (icons not yet updated).
- Not using new PBR livery materials, or wet body/wind screen system.

The car entries have race numbers in general order of engine capacity, with the lowest numbers having the largest engines. This is useful when choosing a car, and manually adding AI to an event.

These cars are a joy to drive. The most fun I've had in sim racing in years.

i don't think the rims are set up to be changed by users, sorry

Great mod, I been enjoying the challenge of piloting those cars, they sure are challenging and a lot of fun! I even have been making some custom skins but need some help. I managed to make the helmet and body colors to work on sim but had no luck with the rims. What is the naming convention to be followed on the DSS file for the rims? Do they have to be packed in the same MAS file like the hemets? Is it even possible to change rim colors?

I’ve been hunting for something like this; this is absolutely going to overshadow the content drop today as I rip around Gnoo and Belgium 😍

Right, the mod uses the baulk-torque effect to give the impression of clutch slip, which is meant to force people to lift when shifting. These cars aren't meant to be flat-shifted, so it makes sense that it makes awkward noises without lifting on shifts. I'm not sure if it could be setup differently for better auto-blip and auto-lift operation, but there is currently no development time available to make any changes

Okay I figured it out, there's 2 separate audio issues, one on my end, and one with this mod. I solved the crackling/skipping audio by switching my in-game sound configuration to use the windows defaults, I also adjusted the buffer count in the player.JSON. After that there was no distortion to the audio. But when I change gears there was still a noticeable stutter, most prominent with the Jungle Cat, but it's still there on other cars like the Favero. I discovered this is happening because I use the auto-blip and auto-lift assists, since i'm playing on a gamepad. Upshifts are smooth if I lift off the gas, but if I keep it down and let the auto-lift do it for me, there's a weird stuttering, same with downshift, if I blip the throttle myself it sounds fine, but when the auto-blip does it, it stutters. The same issue occurs when using automatic transmission.

Thanks Juralumin, glad you're enjoying it :)
I think the Jungle Cat cars have a sort of rev limiter sound in the samples i think, which was part of the default sound set i've used for them. It would probably be better if i had changed that. If it's only those cars then that might be the issue, and it suggests you're over-revving the engine in each gear. If it's happening on other cars then I haven't heard that issue before, sorry

I love this mod, it's really something special. But I'm having some audio issues with some of the cars. There's a noticeable clipping/crackling/skipping of the audio when I change gear in some cars. It's most pronounced in the Jungle Cat, which is a shame because that's my favourite of the cars in this mod. Not sure if it's an issue with the mod, with my own setup, or with rFactor 2 and its recent updates. I've tried a few things, audio is set to 64 channels, I tried an older version of rf2, and I tried lowering the refresh rate from my usual 144hz and/or applying vsync (it sounds weird but doing that fixed audio clipping issues for me in Automobilista). Anything else I could try? I know it's just this mod because other cars in the sim sound fine.

Thanks Sam!
we'd be happy to hear about your D-Type experience and comparisons in the forum thread, or in private on the forums if you'd prefer.
It's unlikely that we'll be putting together another update anytime soon, though. Not to suggest we've perfected things, but we've already far surpassed our initial intents to just make an impression of these cars

woochoo, a fantastic mod, thank you!
I have raced a Jaguar D type (I mean Jungle Cat ;P ) and would be happy to discuss physics.
