Some of the older bits of lore are in conflict, and unless Bethesda actually makes official beast children or official word-of-god lore that goes over Argonian physiology, this is about as canon as anything else.Who knows what the actual biology might be of these humanoid waterbreathing lizards that are telepathically linked to sentient trees and can survive in the cold of Skyrim despite being lizards!
