We no longer run a server but have left this up here as it may be useful as a structure for running ROK servers to build their own rule set with

IINTRODUCTION

The Zeus community is over a decade old
We are a mature community and take role playing relatively seriously without being anal about it.
We have recently set up a ROK server and would welcome any player who has a mature approach to online gaming to come and set up home in our realm.
The style of gameplay is Mature RP PVP
If your style of gameplay is to look for and try to exploit grey areas of the rules or utilise game exploits, then you are here to grief and will not be welcome.

The ROK server is new and relatively unpopulated with plenty of space for a large organised Clan/Guild/Families

We are primarily an ArmA milsim community, so please excuse the site, its primary focus is on ArmA.
We have created a sub forum for the ROK players to discuss their issues and ideas

Joining The Server
***********************************

You will need to connect to our teamspeak server
Approach and admin and request access to the server. You will be expected to use voice comms, this is purely to establish your maturity level
The admins will then:
  • Verify that your maturity level is acceptable on the server
  • Verify you have read the rules and have a basic understanding of them by asking a few questions
  • Grant you access to the server

If you violate any of the Server rules, expect your access to be denied

SERVER RULES (Page 1)

To maintain sensible gameplay the following rules or conditions apply when playing on the server

Anything that can be deemed as non role play that adversley effects the enjoyment of others will most likely result in a kick or a ban. We simply DO NOT TOLERATE IDIOTS who are intent on spoiling the fun of those who want to play more sensibly

These are basically DO NOT DO EVER

  1. KOS
  2. Combat logging
  3. Killing Sleeping Players
  4. Placing objects on anothers claim
  5. Griefing
  6. Hacking
  7. Detrimental acts to your Guild
  8. Use of Game Exploits
  9. Re-Offending after Kicks
  10. Non response to admin requests
  11. Damage of Safe Haven
  12. Lying to an admin in a NON RP situation

The punishment is dependant on the rule broken and the conditions under which they were broken.
Potential punishment could be anything up to the obvious permanent ban

KOS (Kill on site)
---------------------------------------
This is deemed as an unprovoked non RP attack on a player resulting in death. It shouldnt even need stating. If someone joins the server and sees that as a way to play in RP, they have the wrong mentality for the server. The rule is that before you attack another player with a weapon that causes damage, that player must have first unsheathed their own weapon. If they do not unsheath, your only option is to capture.
Violation of this rule may result in permanent ban without warning.

COMBAT LOGGING

This is defined as logging off during battle.
It is an expoit in most games that allow you to save your inventory by not being killed.
We understand that you may suffer a ctd, if this is the case you must reconnect as soon as possible and state you CTD’d.
The Sleeping Player rule also applies in these circumstances. You can capture the supposed combat logger but if the player reconnects relatively quickly, then you must release him and continue with RP. If the player states the server was full and couldnt get back on, thats an issue that an Admin has to deal with

KILLING SLEEPING PLAYERS
---------------------------------------
Sleeping players are defined as players who have “Disconnected” for whatever reason

    You cannot intentionally kill a sleeping player unless ALL of the following conditions have been met
  • RP has resulted in a declaration of war and you are at war with the guild the player belongs to
  • The claim where the player is sleeping is under Siege conditions
  • The player is asleep inside their perimeter walls

PLACING OBJECTS ON ANOTHERS CLAIM

The only objects than can be placed on another’s claim or while that area is being claimed is limited to the following whitelist
This is to prevent objects not designed to be ladders, being used as ladders to breach defences

Players cannot destroy and or remove another family’s crest except under the following conditions
Sheriffs define the claim as abandoned (An admin will remove the crest after the auction has been won)

Placement location must be coordinated and sanctioned by an admin.

GRIEFING

This is defined as gameplay that has no logical RP reasoning behind it or operating within any grey areas of the rules.
This is left specifically open to allow admins to deal with anyone who is trying to buck the system. If your unsure of your intended actions falling into this category. THEN CHECK FIRST before acting

NON RESPONSE TO ADMINS REQUESTS

If a server admin requests a player to do something then that player should carry out the request or have a good explanation as to why they cannot comply

If a player doesnt respond, it can only be for the following reasons
  • Doesnt speak English, cannot converse with other players therefore cannot role play
  • AFK (Will kick to make room for others)
  • Arrogance
  • Doesnt know the basics of the game and doesnt know how to chat
    The No.4 category player will be given advice on how to enter into chat before we do this.

ACCESS TO SERVER

Only admins can grant access to the server and give out any passwords used

LYING TO ADMINS (Out of RP)
---------------------------------------
If you claim somebody has committed a breach of server rules and we find after reviewing the evidence. (ShadowPlay is your worse enemy here) that you have been lying or trying to deceive an admin into punishing an innocent party you will be dealt with quite severely. This rule also applies to lying about bounty target not being in your guild when collecting their bounty.

DAMAGE TO SAFE HAVEN
---------------------------------------
Any intentional changes to objects inside and including Safe Haven walls without the express permission of the MAYOR or an ADMIN is a major violation.
Acidental changes should be reported immediatey.ideally to the mayor, if not another admin

USEAGE OF SIEGE WEAPONS
---------------------------------------
Siege weapons can only be used in siege conditions period
This means the following criteria has to be met
  • Officially at war with the claim’s land owners (Stated on the Realm Notice board)
  • Are in siege conditions
  • The target buildings is in the claim under siege or the siege weapons are fired from within the claim area at the attacking players
  • The time and date are the pre-agreed timings as accepted by the admins and noted on the Realm Notice board
Useage of siege weapons outside of this rule is totally prohibited. Violators will be permanently banned.

NLR (New Life Rule)

If you die as a result of RP, whether it be PvP or PvE, you come back as the Son or daughter of the deceased and inherit their land and goods.
YOU KEEP THE SAME NAME
You have no knowldge of the cause of the death only that
Your father / mother has died
Where they died (So you can search for their dropped loot)
Where their claim is.
If you decide to investigate and find that it was due to murder, and wish to exact revenge then you must RP this out without using any metagame knowledge

If you die in PVP (MAIN BATTLE & SKIRMISHES).
You cannot return to the battlefield area until THE BATTLE HAS FINISHED
(This means if your base is under siege, you would have to respawn at the beach or Safe Haven, if you have a bed there)
Unless a guild member collects your equipment, you lose it.

If you die in PVP (SIEGE CONDITIONS).
You can return to the battlefield but must respawn at the beach (Not any bases)


Unless a guild member collects your equipment, you lose it.

If the Guild is wiped out after a succesful siege.
They have 2 options
  • They come back as a new family shipwrecked on the shore at start afresh
  • If they want to come back as the guilds heirs and successors they have to RP this as in any NLR loss of life

If you die as a result of a breach of server rules against you, such as KOS then the server admins will reimburse you for your losses.

CTD (Crash to Desktop)

Due to the inherent instability of the engine, the server does crash from time to time as do clients.
It is your responsibility to relog often to save your inventory.
Admins simply do not have the resources to deal with calls for reimbursement of personal inventory gear after a ctd

If the server crashes, any building works you have carried out are normally safe.
In extreme events we may have to roll back. We have

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

If you believe you are a victim of a breach of SERVER Rules, then please contact an admin.
I would recommend coming onto teamspeak to do this. You will need some evidence, be it screenshots or video recordings. Be warned, all arguments are biased, both points of view will be investigated where possible

    Any player with 1 stars infront of their "Tag" has kick/ban rights

The Mayor & Head Sherriffs have full admin rights and can reimburse you with lost inventory

Gathering Evidence of a KOS Incident
********************************
If you believe you are under KOS attack, then carry out the following actions if you are not already video recording.
  1. Select your “E” key and keep it pressed in
  2. While maintaining the “E” keypress select your F12 key to take a screenshot
  3. Do not draw your weapon and fight back, this may weaken your argument (Take the hit)
  4. Start spamming on VOIP and chat “KOS KOS KOS”
    (This will make the attacking player aware that you believe you are under KOS attack and if it isnt a KOS attack, a good RP player should cease and decist
  5. Contact an admin (Have patience not everything can happen instantly)
  6. The admins will then investigate and should it be deemed that either it was a KOS or you werent aware of any RP prior to the attack or RP was incorrect the admins will reimbuse any inventory you lost

Gathering Evidence of any other server rule issue

I would strongly recommend all player that can, run Shadow Player continously.
The default video recording is set to store the last 5 minutes, I would reset that to 10.
if you dont have an Nvidia card that can do that, then use some other software and set a hotkey for panic recording.

Recomended software

This will stop any griefers from getting away with it and ideally prevent it in the first place

With a little patience we will eventually weed all the griefers out of the server and end up with a solid RP community

You will be expected to actually speak, this is the only maturity check we can conceive of and therefore this is a pre requisite

This is local chat , eg someone near you should be able to hear this. Please take into consideration the exisiting VOIP/Sound issue. Use this to save typing after initial contact with another player

VOIP/SOUND ISSUE

There is an issue with ingame voip which causes a loss of sound.
If this occurs the fix for this or any other sound FX issue is to
Reduce the Sound FX volume to 0
Apply the changes
Reset the Sound FX to your desired level

Gameplay Advice to Newcomers

When you join the server for the first time, we advice you to either
  • Join a guild
  • Come to Safe haven to ask for an "Apartment"

Solo players are not allowed to claim land or build, this is simply to reduce the number of buildings and maintain better server stability

If you are part of a guild (3 or more players) then you need to approach an admin and discuss with him where you wish to build. There are restrictions in place for the size of claim allowed etc

If you are allowed to build then your first aim should be to create a cobblestone building with a cobblestone roof and an iron door to protect your Crest

Very basically roleplay is “Acting as the character would in real life environment, but restricted by the available gameplay mechanics and Server rules”

Consider: Would you really do what you are about to do if this was a real world situation.

ROLEPLAY -- Currency

Initially this has been included so we can have some form of currency during abandoned buildings auctions
Until we expand on this
1 steel ingot = 15 iron ingots

It takes 10 iron iungots to create the 10 steel compound used to create a steel ingot.
However there are also other resources used, so instead of making this 10 iron = 1 steel, we have decided that it shouldn be 15

ROLEPLAY -- Individuals

INTERACTION WITH OTHER PLAYERS

If a player wishes to interact with another player this is how they should do it

Approaching a player with Friendly Intention.
---------------------------------------

  1. Approach the player and use the “G” key to wave. This reveals your identity and basically states that your intentions are friendly.
  2. Wait for the player to acknowledge your presence before getting any closer.
  3. There is no RP reason that when approached this way the player being approached should do anything else other than initially respond likewise.
  4. If the player runs away this is not an aggressive act just a man fearful of the outcome of the interaction

Approaching a player with Aggressive Intention.
---------------------------------------

  1. Approaching with weapon unsheafed should in all cases be deemed as a threatening act. A Rope or capturing equipment such as a shackle should also be deemed as a weapon in this instance.
  2. What happens next is down to the intended victim.
  3. If the target does not draw his weapon, the only aggressive act you can carry out is to capture him. If he’s sensible he will just run away
  4. If he draws his weapon, then he is entering into combat
  5. You would need a good RP reason to capture someone
  6. You would need a very good RP reason to attack someone who wasnt showing any aggression.

In a nutshell, you cannot attack a player with a weapon that inflicts damage unless that player has also unsheafed a weapon.


Homicidal maniac bandits will not be tolerated, so if you want to play this role to do that, find another server

RESOURCE CONTROL

Control of a resource is deemed as denying other players access to a resource by for example
Walling it in or defending it aggresively
The following resources can be controlled
  • Oil (5 nodes exist in total)
  • Iron (12 nodes exist in total)
  • Stone (At least 16 nodes exist in total)
  • Clay (? exist in total)
  • Dirt (? exist in total)
  • 2 nodes of each resource must be left uncontrolled for public access
  • A Guild can only control 3 nodes of any type
  • (Admins will police on a first come first served basis)
  • Sherriffs will police in the RP world

Firstly let me point out that if you intended robbing someone, you would not do this one on one, there would at least be 2 of you maybe 3 ganging up on your victim

Bandits (Approach the victim with swords drawn)
Victim see’s the bandits and is surrounded and outnumbered therefore DOES NOT DRAW HIS WEAPON
Bandits: this is a robbery, hand over your loot
Victim enters into conversation and pleads for his life and barters for his life
Bandits agree on accepting all his food, iron and weapons and then lets him go free
Victim flees to nearest sheriff and reports the crime

  4. Victim enters into conversation and points out he is well armed and it may be better if they just let him pass or he will fight
  5. Bandits think about it and refuse to let him go
  6. Victim tries to bargain with feeble offerings
  7. Bandits do not accept
  8. Victim draws his sword and battle commences
  9. Bandits win scenario: They have committed murder and theft
  10. Victim win scenario: He reports the crime to the sheriff’s. If there is no complaints from the heirs of the dead bandits, which there shouldnt be, then the victim is left to go his own way and the deaths are logged as justifiable killings
  11. Scenario Victim kills 1, other bandit flees and complains to the sheriff’s that he and his friend was attacked, his friend was killed and he narrowly escaped death by fleeing. The sheriffs would investigate the crime and then put a warrant out for the arrest of the victim or arrest the whining bandit and a trial would commence


ADD MORE SCENARIOS
ROLEPLAY -- King

First and foremost you have to work within common law (Which will be explained later)
Your role as king is to


The following are the roles you should try and fulfill to maintain your position of power and, if any attempt to overthrow you occurs, have support from other families
  • Protect the rights of freemen under common law
  • Judge on Family disputes or civil matters
  • Keep the morale of your subjects high
  • Maintain safe trading
  • Support food and tradeable goods production
  • Issue Royal warrants permitting execution once the judicial system has found the accused guilty
  • Make your own Kings law rules
  • Provide for the needy
  • Act as diplomat during Guild disputes and try and prevent war.
  • Deal with ransom demands from bandits for any of the following
    • Residents of Safe Haven
    • Members of the merchants union
    • Commoners (Not belonging to one of the Player Guilds)
    • The Mayor
    • The sherriff
      If you do not want to pay the ransom then you can hand over the issue to the Sheriff’s

What you cannot do is walk around exerting your own instant justice.

Becoming the King
***********************************


To overthrow the reigning Monarch is a 3 step process
  1. Diplomacy
  2. Declaration of War
  3. Sieging (If the Throne is protected by Cobblestone or higher blocks)

This is exactly the same as the process of declaring war on a Family.
With the one exception, that the leader of the group that wishes to take on the reigning monarch must have at least 2 sponsors (Players) to support him and must have the admins permission.

Once a succesful attempt has been made, the new Monarch has a 24 hour realtime grace period to secure his throne and recruit a guard to protect them.

KINGS DEFENCES
***********************************
As a king you have the right to one additional Iron Claim which typically you could build at the start or the end of the Kings castle causeway
There is nothing to stop the Guild, who has the king from relocating their Forward base as an extra line of defence, but his may be risky
ROLEPLAY -- Sheriffs

Your task is to
  • Investigate crime
  • Uphold common law
  • Issue and carry out warrants for arrest
  • Police building regulations
  • Police Resource Control
  • Maintain the Gaol and care for your prisoners
  • Declare properties as being abandoned
You have the powers of arrest
You have powers to administer punishment
You have powers to administer trials
You have powers to deputise
You have powers to force entry
  • To make an arrest
  • To search the property




Sherifs are the peoples police, paid for in taxes by the common men and traders. They are not subject to war or siege.
ROLEPLAY -- Bandits

This is by far the most controversial role
I strongly recommend that if you wish to play this role, you absolutely need to run shadowplay or an alternative

A bandit is someone who has been cast out from society because they have broken societies rules. Most typically this means they have become thieves and in very rare instances murderers.
A thief is basically lazy and wants to put in the least effort for the greatest reward. This means that when you approach somebody to rob them what you want is an easy no nonsense, no violence robbery and get what you can with the least effort.
So typically if you decide to attempt to rob somebody, you should be aiming for your victim to not respond aggressively and to give you some items out of their inventory after a threat of violence and then let them go on their way in peace. (Murder should rarely occur if you RP this correctly)
The best way to accomplish this is to rob in gangs of 3 or more so the victim is outnumbered and therefore should decide not to draw their weapons (Shadowplay or alternative is your best friend here)
if you want to kidnap somebody for ransom, then you need to keep that player alive otherwise you wont be able to sell them back.
kidnapping a commoner wont be worth much and in the RP world you shouldnt impose a high ransom demand
Homicidal maniac bandits will not be tolerated. If you stray down that path we will try and RP you, execute you and ban you from the server.
Their value should be balanced and something aligned to
  • The king would be worth a fortune
  • The mayor quite a lot
  • A Guild leader may be worth something to the guild
  • The safe haven blacksmith less
  • A commoner very little

Playing the role of a bandit well should create good gameplay for everyone.

Due to engine limitations on performance, (Too many buildings have a very negative effect on client and server performance.
You are recomended to ask for housing in SAFE HAVEN

DISPUTES (War, Sieging etc)
Disputes between families have an ordered system of escalation which must be adhered to.

DIPLOMACY STAGE:

If one family has a dispute with another family then they have the following options at their disposal

They can try and come to an agreement using diplomatic means between each other
Examples:
  • Agreeing on compensation
  • Handing over the problem member
  • Trial by combat
  • Any other agreement they can roleplay
  • They can ask the King to settle the dispute
  • They can seek justice in the courts

DECLARING WAR:

If the diplomacy stage fails, then a Guild leader or spokesman can declare war on the other Guild. A pre-war period must occur before hostilities can break out between them, which is:
  • 1 hour realtime period
  • The admins need to log this on the noticeboard
During this pre war period, the declaration of war must be made public (E.g Typed in Global chat several times) and added to the Realm Notice Board
When the pre-war period has passed any of the guild members are free to attack their opposing guild members once their identities have been confirmed.

If any additional families wish to enter the war, then they also have to Declare war and state who they are allied too.

You cannot declare war on the police (The Sherriff's)

MAIN BATTLE:

At some point both if the war escalates families may need to have a full scale battle.
Both family leaders or official spokespersons would then need to agree in the presence of an admin the following
  • Date and time of the battle
  • Location of the battle
  • The base being used as the resource centre (Main or outpost)
If no agreement can be made then the admin can set the date and time. An admin should also be present during the main battle

The battlefield has to be a neutral location, i.e not close to any claim owned by any of the families who will be involved in the battle
The castle/base defined as the resource centre has an impact on the siege stage , if the war escalates beyond this main battle phase in the following way
  • The victorious side can then declare their intentions to siege the resource centre of the defeated side.
  • Siege weapons allowed for both sides are limited to the siege weapons that were premounted in the defined resource centres at the time of the Main Battle Agreement infront of an admin

Before the battle can start
  • Both teams are allowed a 5 minute preparation time
  • Both teams have to form up ready for battle facing each other across the battlefield (including any allies they can muster)
  • When both leaders are ready the admin announces the battle has started and then all hell is let lose

WIN SCENARIO = Side of Last man standing

SIEGING
---------------------------------------
(This covers any attack on a base that can damage base materials (Cobblestone or harder)
Sieging can only occur when
  • Families are at war
  • After the main battle has occured and one side is declared victorious.
  • The only base that can be sieged is the resource centre of the defeated side as defined during preparations for the main battle.
The siege date and time have to be agreed by both parties in the presence of an admin.
If no agreement can be made then the admin can set the date and time. An admin should also be present during the siege.

(In the real world the attacking side would have marched their army to a location near their intended target and set up camp to gather materials in order to construct their siege equipment etc etc.
So to RP this, the attacking team cannot use their siege equipment from within their claim area, it has to be brought to their battle encampment and set up.

Before the siege can start
  • The attacking team has a 5 minute preparation time to set up ecampment defences using Tier 2 (Log blocks)
  • The defending team has to start within its castle’s walls including any allies it can muster
  • The attacking team must be within the area of their encampment, this includes any allies it can muster

When both leaders declare they are ready, then the siege can begin.

NB>> Bombs can only be used against reinforce stone or harder (>=Tier 6)

If a siege is succesful, then the attacking team has the right to destroy the claim’s crest and replace it with their own.
If they do take over the claim, they have 2 options available:
  • They can clear the claim completely and have full salvage rights for anything in the claim
  • They can relocate the resource centre as defined in the Main Battle preparations to this new site.
    (They have 48 hours realtime in which to do this).

WIN SCENARIO ATTACKING TEAM
After breaching the wall, killing the defending designated Defence Commander

WIN SCENARIO DEFENDING TEAM
When the attacking team is no longer able to breach defences and no attacking family members are inside the perimeter walls

If they fail, the defending team then has the right to counter attack and attempt a “Siege” on their oppositions defined resource centre. The same siege request has to be agreed Time and date with an admin etc

PRISONERS OF WAR

Can only take a prisoner of war from a warring guild while at war
Player must be traded for release within a realtime hour. If no trade agreement is made within that hour then the player should be executed or released

ENDING HOSTILITIES

Wars will end when either
  • One side has surrendered
  • Both sides agree on a ceasefire
The losing team must abide by the terms & conditions of the surrender (These have to be sensible)
If the losing Families cannot agree on the terms then the King must step in and make a decision.
If the King cannot settle an agreement then admins must be called upon to rule

If its not yours and it's man made and you take it without the consent of the owner, it's theft.
If you find somebody’s property, the right thing is to hand it in to leave it alone and report it to a Sherriff.
Touching it in any way could have you accused of theft

BREAKING & ENTERING

It is possible to break into some buildings in RP by breaking down wooden doors walls and roofs with normal hand held weapons or lockpicking but is a common law criminal act and if the culprit is caught, it is punishable.
It is up to the claim holder to secure their property. A minimum of walls and roof made of cobblestone and either an iron or reinforced wooden door that you keep locked should prevent this and be a deterrent against thieves.

  • They are a prisoner of war
If your kidnap victim dies while in your custody, you may be held accountable for murder.

Hostages who give themselves freely as part of a diplomatic negotiation do not fall under this category and must be cared for, fed and watered and treat as an honoured guest

is defined as
Not leaving the owners private land after being requested to do so
Trepsass law does not stand if the trespasser is at war with the claim owner and the property has been declared as under siege conditions

Abandoned Buildings

If the sheriff's believe a claim is abandoned, they will add its listing on the Realm Notice board
This will remain on there for 48 hours allowing the landowner to claim it
Once the 48 hours is up, then the claim will be made available for auction
Time and date of the auction will be defined on the notice board
The winner of the auction then has full salvage rights and must demolish the property within 24 hours.

After that all salvage rights will be lost and the sheriffs will clear the site

It is not advised to attempt a citizens arrest, however if you really feel the need then……

Any free man can make a citizens arrest if they believe their intended target is either wanted by the law or suspected of breaking the law.
To make a citizens arrest you need to approach using the Friendly Intention method as stated previously, stating your intentions and why you are about to initiate them.
You are allowed to use rope or shackes to detain your target.
While the arrested citizen is in your custody you have a duty of care to the prisoner
If your prisoner dies while you have them in your custody, you may stand trial for their death.
On making a citizens arrest you should hand the target over to the nearest Sheriff or take them directly to Sheriffs castle where they should be handed over to the authorities and placed in Gaol to await trial.

Once the accused has made his decision, it is final and cannot be altered

I joined this guys discord server to try to play the game again. He has 0 players on his server and refuses to change it to raid anytime. Also he allowed his friend "KR," to speak to me very disrespectfully. He was saying rude, untrue, and unkind things. I would not recommend trying this guys server out, hell just ban you from his discord server once his friends start talking crap to you. Just a little heads up. Gday!

@David McBoss, please read the comments below, you will then realise that out server is no longer running and hasnt been for a very long time. So whatever server you have been banned from, it wasn't ours , as it no longer exists and will not be brought back online

MrBigNob4 how can "This" server be any of the things you say it is.
Our ROK server was shut down many months ago for the reasons I stated in the post just before yours
Cannot be lagging because it isnt there
Cannot be spawn killing because the server no longer exists

You really need to get your act together, your nickname is well deserved you plonker !!!

Maybe someone out there saw this guide and is using it for their server ?
