The C5 was the first Corvette to feature drive-by-wire throttle, where the vehicle's acceleration is driven by an electronic sensor and gears, rather than through a mechanical pedal and linkage.

All 6-speed Corvettes have a 3.42 gear ratio from the factory. I'm guessing you copied the above from a GM site or brochure. It says "6-speed manual 3.42 optional on Coupe and Convertible" because a 4-speed Automatic transmission was standard, so the 6-speed was therefore optional.

Performance: Despite spanning nearly a decade, the C5 featured only two engines. The 5.7L LS1 V8 debuted in '97 and offered drivers 345 hp initially, rising as high as 385 hp in the Z06 model. The LS6 ran from 2001-2004 and was also a 5.7L V8 engine, though it kicked out as much as 405 hp.

The C5 was produced the most in the year 2002, with 35,469 models. In total, there were 248,715 models produced over the years 1997-2004. The sales numbers are as follows: 1997, 9,752; 1998, 31,084; 1999, 33.270; 2000, 33,682; 2001, 35,767; 2002, 35,627; 2003, 35,469; 2004, 34,064.

Top speed was rated at 171 miles per hour (275 kilometers per hour), while 0-60 mph was achievable in 4.0 seconds.
