Investigation games are my main favorite genre, I played all of them and was also very excited to try this one. Right of the bat, the main issue that most players will face with Crime O'Clock is the expectation of getting a detective game. This is not it. It's basically on the verge of being a visual novel with lots of (mediocre) mini-games in between. Those mini-games are never challenging enough to feel rewarding or make the users feel smart about solving them. They're also very intrusive, often cutting the flow of the story to the point that I often forgot what I was initially looking for after completing them. This, combined with an (also very intrusive) narrator that always tell you too much often spoiling the next clues in the process ruins everything about what would be an otherwise very interesting main gameplay mechanic.

In short, if you gave me a penny for every non-interactive doors, bugs and clipping walls in this game, I would be able to buy myself a Steam Deck OLED.

Approach this game with caution, for it defies the conventions of typical mystery or detective genres. While it boasts exceptional voice acting from a charismatic cast of characters and introduces a handful of innovative gameplay elements, be prepared for a rollercoaster of disappointment near the end of the game. Initially, you may believe you've unraveled the mystery, only to have your theories dismantled by an inexplicable barrage of contrived information and clues as the story unfolds. These narrative elements often lack proper explanation, leaving you with a trail of unanswered questions. Despite these setbacks, I did find enjoyment in the experience, yet I couldn't help but wish the game had concluded earlier when the enjoyment was still at its peak and my hopes were still riding high.

It's decent.
I do have one question though.
Can you imagine how inconvenient travel was before the invention of floo powder?

So, that Victor Hugo guy keeps spawning horses to attack my scouts just for the lol
1. I can't retaliate because I don't have enough war support
2. I find an obscure way to get the war support I required
3. I apparently don't have the technology to enter Victor's territory
4. I finally get the technology required and I take one Victor's city
5. I don't have enough war points to keep the city so I need to give it back

Excuse me?
Boo, what riggory is this?

Seriously, war is way too complicated which would be fine if it was avoidable but AI attacks way too much even when I thought we were cool.

A game that is virtually about trying to find the few doors you can interact with. All the houses, doors and gates look the same, trees and buildings are hiding any potential landmarks. And if, like me, you lose all your notes and pictures because of the Cloud saves, I'm sorry but you're screwed.

Early Access Review
Changed review to positive. Larian listened to the feedback and made an absolute banger of a game at the end. One of the thing I like the most is that every decision has so many outcomes and most definitely - everyone will have a different story to share. There's still bugs along the way to Baldur's Gate, but a little bit of perkiness never killed anybody.
