An absolute gem that can be quite rewarding if you give it a chance. I owned this game originally on the Switch and decided to buy it again so I could consolidate as much of my library as possible on Steam.

At first it can seem a bit strange that a game's entire game-play and structure can be built around something as simple as movement. This facet of a game is usually not worth mentioning, as using the "WASD" keys or an analogue stick on a controller usually gets your character going in the right direction. However, in Tumbleseed you need to lift a platform underneath your character to move. This is done by using BOTH sticks on a controller in tandem, or two buttons on a keyboard. There are 4 tutorial levels at the beginning of the game which will allow you to learn and understand the basics of movement in Tumbleseed - and I would recommend completing these before moving onto the main mode in which the mountain you are trying to traverse is randomly generated. The best way to get a good feel for the game is to complete side-missions given in exchange for Auras at the beginning of each tutorial level. This will give you a reason to practice the same mountain a few times and enable you to feel like you're getting something out of it. Also, the Auras are particularly useful when climbing the mountain in the main game mode, as they give you a bit of a buffer while you try to navigate the indiscriminate holes and relentless mobs.

Personally, I really adore this game. I had never envisioned a game where it takes time and effort to master something as simple as movement - but once I got the hang of it I found controlling the little seed felt really rewarding and maneuvering around holes (and trying to destroy enemies with different abilities when I felt brave enough) was a challenge well worth attempting. While I still haven't been able to scale the mountain all the way to the top, I'm having fun practising and picking up Steam Achievements along the way.

If you're at least 30% interested in trying out this game, go and check out playthroughs on Youtube. If you're still keen, give it a go while it's on sale! While I would definitely say it's well-worth paying full-price, if the discount gets a sale over the line for these guys I'm happy to recommend taking advantage of it.
