Hey. I'm not in the trading business anymore but the whole escrow/ trade holding thing is relatively simple. As an additional layer of security you now need to confirm trades through another device, such as a tablet or smart phone because it's a lot easier for a hacker to get hold of your computer than your phone. If you're trading without mobile authentication, all trades will take 72 hours to complete while the items are held on Steam's servers. This gives you enough time to contact Valve and stop the trade in the event that your account is compromised. It's a very controversial topic, but drastic measures were needed as phishing was becoming a big issue.

I've heard about a 'desktop authenticator' which allows you to complete trades instantly on your PC without requiring a mobile device, but it's not an official application from Valve. It might be worth looking into that, but make sure it's 100% safe first.
