The first 4~8 hours game is fun and interesting. The late game is pure tedium and achievement hunting this game was insanely painful.

Trying to get Popularity Level 15 is just not fun because at that point in the game you have every recipe for every potion saved and its just clicking through menus. The customers with requirements for potions only make it worse because you lose double the popularity you gain on average by turning them away. So it's just a complete slog. Another annoyance I ran into was through bad RNG I was constantly short on many of the gems that make the high tier potions possible (mostly frost sapphires). My final big late game annoyance was remaking previous alchemy machine salts is just SO ANNOYING. I would have dropped the game if I didn't add a mod that allows you to save the alchemy machine recipes. I understand it's a feature that's intended to be added, but its not in the game now so I can complain about it.

Hopefully future updates eventually arrive and change my opinion.

TLDR; Early Game Good, Mid-Game Good, Late Game Atrociously Boring

Excellent game!

Always knew I would like a Vampire Survivor-esque game, but I could vainly never get over the art style. Halls of Torment has a much more appealing art style. Halls of Torment also always hits the hack and slash power fantasy of Vampire Survivors or other similar hack and slash games.

My only critique is that some of the scroll abilities are weaker or less effective than others, so on agony mode you are more likely to take the weaker abilities, making later game agony runs (once you have figured out what are the best abilities) feel very samey.

80% Walking Simulator, 10% Inventory Sorting Simulator, 10% Game Play, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Unfortunately, the best online way to play!
