It’s taken a few installs and uh, ‘some other stuff’ to get this working again. U5 bricked it and the hotfixes, well, she weren’t no worky-worky neither.

I don’t enjoy knowing many likewise afflicted CTD’ers won’t be able to do the technical twists and turns to get past these murky obstacles, are left to hangout weeks and months, hoping on a WU# or SU# to bring them back. Hoping is a horrible place to be!

But perhaps this is the modern way; make it, break it, break it again and do a numbers cull on whoever is left with whatever setups, hone in on those.

The sim itself is a glory of technical execution, I’m telling you, and visual splendor exists everywhere. The sound is super immersive and the control surfaces good enough - for me anyway. A wonky, half-busted thumbs up, and for those trapped in a spreadsheet, that’s a 7.5 out of 10, friend.

Now I’ve played most of MS’ flight simulators since the wireframe years and even the funky 2.5D mountains in the dogfight sections (remember those?). These ancient releases were pretty much bug free, highly constrained miniaturist worlds which required a lot of your imagination to power them along with. Less was going wrong because less was being simulated.

As it stands, this flight simulator is trying to bring off multiplicities of highly detailed and interconnected experience, and a lot is being broken just as a lot is being fixed. I know it seems odd, but it's actually swapped back to a beta. Managing (and yet paying) into this expectation, is key to enjoying what's currently presented.

Commercially, the focus is not going to be awesomely inclusive for everyone’s setup anymore. A clear break has occurred since U5. As a clue for PC’ers, for those that came in late, the xBox is now your God, master and all conquering template in these matters; align and shine.

Authentic tables, rich textures and great audio with a UI that on my non-pro version looks like something from a 90's CD-i game.

Some tables glitch; Star Trek goes into a ball-hogging oblivion leaving you wtih an unplayable table.

The UI makes another unwelcomed return with hi-scores, sometimes acknowledging the input key for Select, other times requiring the mouse. Another UI bug exists with (0,0)xy for the mouse at every new screen rather than recalling coords over appropriate targets like Select or Start.

Overall I'm impressed and will be enjoying these tables for some time. Really rich deep game play to be found here.
