Everything about this game screams passion project. Its whole style is clearly achieved with a lot of effort, from the traditional music to (most notably) that classic 30s hand-drawn look. Not only is it visually unique, but the merciless boss battles are extremely fun and you feel an overwhelming sense of achievement after each one. This is my kind of game.

Certain games (especially ones with repetetive sound effects, dull music or clunky graphics) tend to give me headaches. This game's art, music and sound effects are so smooth and soothing that it completely prevents it from happening.

The only pain that this game gives me is finger pain after attempting a single jump combination fifty times in a row.

I mainly got Payday 2 because my friends were playing it obsessively and I wanted to join them. However, I just don't see the fun in this game.

Firstly, everyone I play with is way ahead of me in every way (money-wise, skill-wise, etc.) Also, every good character is taken, meaning that I am left with the bad ones. The idea doesn't fascinate me either. A heist game. Never heard that one before.

So basically, I don't find this game fun or interesting.

This amazing sequel beats the original game by improving everything and adding more to the experience.

Story

The story is continued and developed, giving more away about the history of Aperture Science and the main antagonist's story. Nothing feels forced or unnecessary, resulting in a story that gives just enough away and leaves just enough as a mystery for a satisfying end to the franchise.

There is a lot of comedic dialogue as well as intense and emotional scenes, as well as the voice acting, graphics, and sound effects all being improved. I also love the soundtrack, as it perfectly suits the environment and atmosphere that the game is going for.

Gameplay

The puzzles develop from easy to very hard just slowly and gradually enough for you to master the logic behind solving each one, resulting in you being fully trained to take on any chamber by the end of the game.

There is always something to be doing in this game. While some games seem to be over as soon as you finish the playthrough, Portal 2 gives you Co-Op mode after you finish the singleplayer story (in which you play with a friend or a stranger.) After that is done, you can create your own test chambers (for co-op AND singleplayer) or you can play the ones made by your friends and the community.

Final Thoughts

Although Portal 2 isn't a game that I play all the time, it will always be a source of nostalgia for me (since it was the first decent game I played all the way through.) The game is perfect for what it's intended to be, and every few months I end up coming back to it.
