archer tips

1. The best way to be better at arching is through being better at MELEE. A SMOOTH ROTATION and plenty of time to switch to melee from your bow is the key to longer lives as an archer. Can't stress enough how helpful it is to get 1-2 shots in and then switch to engage enemy with melee, knowing you already took a huge chunk of health off. Ppl play differently when low on health. They rethink getting close to you. You turn the situation into a positive for yourself this way.

2 .Like melee, you shouldn't get too zoned in on a single target. While the enemies caked with blood and low on health are going to be very tempting, you can help yourself by SWITCHING UP YOUR TARGETS. This habit of switching helps a lot when it comes to remaining aware of incoming enemies.

3. KNOW WHERE ENEMY ARCHERS LIKE TO HIDE!! or they will one shot you with huntsman. Dont feel stupid for wasting an entire clip of arrows trying to hit an enemy archer far away.

4. RECURVE HAS AN ARC, and after a certain distance it will stop going straight and begin to drop. Pay attention to where you release your shot, how far above your target if it is a long ways off. Keep in mind shields will cover part, but not all of the body. Can aim for feet while an enemy has raised their shield

5. Consistent headshotting with recurve basically compensates for not using a longbow

6. RELEASE, VERY QUICKLY!!! Using recurve, we are valuing the larger clip size over the damage. Go as fast as the game will allow,

7. Your goal with recurve isn't to rack up as many kills as you can. with this bow you want to disrupt and throw the enemy off. enough to make them turn and try to locate the source of the arrow. Enough to aid your nearest teammate into getting a hit or two.

8. Aim for what gives you the >HIGHEST< probability of hitting an enemy. If you have to start by simply aiming into crowds with more enemies than friendlies, that is a really good strategy. Aim basically at a point where if you miss your first or even second intended target, you will still hit your third hidden behind him. I find choke points are excellent to just rack up assists. rule of thumb is to go for nearer enemies first

9. my target priority list goes like this:

1. Bloody/near death
2. Naked/no armor (50 dmg to center mass per hit, instakill if you can hs)
3. Other archers
4. Crowds of enemies
5. 1vX helping teammates.

10. WHY I JUMP

ARC: The main reason I jump is because of the recurve bow having an arc to the arrows. If I jump I can bypass a teammate and the arrow can drop slightly and hit an opponent behind them.

helps a ton with headshots, lobbing arrows up and letting the arc basically guarantee a hs. if a guy is running at me and pretty close range I can jump and let the hitbox aid me

SWITCH IT UP: anyone with some experience arching in mordhau is going to be able to read your jump and it might hamper you. it can make you pretty easy to target so I've gotten better at not jumping and arching for certain sections of maps. Make sure you can do both.

BOW FEINTS: the final reason is my favorite. When I jump, it is a "tell" or sorts for when I shoot. So if I have an enemy who is reading my movements very well and blocking all my arrows, I will play around with them a little. I will shoot a few arrows (recurve has a generous clip size), let them be blocked, and then I will add a jump or where I begin to shoot and cancel it. The enemy ALWAYS does the block in anticipation. I call this little dance a "Bow Feint" - because right after they bite on that empty jump I will shoot once again and it guarantees me a hit.
