Now let me tell you about the abhorrent underrepresentation of progressive diversity in this game.

We start our list of unacceptable violations with our character roster, the Marine and Hunter being in the centre of focus. Now while the Marine is a good representation of a male PoC in a post-Trump world of being strangled by the grip of the "Imperial Hegemony of Man" (read: Patriarchy), the way the developers portrayed him as having left his station in an act of cowardice only reinforces already existing racist stereotypes against People of Color. The Hunter, on the other hand is a great way of representing the LGBTQSPA++ by making her the first asexual panromantic zoophiliac to ever be in a video game, and I applaud Dodge Roll Studios for taking such a progessive stance on video games.

Now onto the gripes and particularly problematic characters, the Convict and the Pilot. While the Convict herself is a nice way to incorporate a lesbian character into this game, her anger, notoriety and inherent whiteness and white pride the character brings is absolutely unacceptable in today's world. And while the Convict is at least an alright character, the Pilot is the epitome of cishet white opression. Having left his birdkin "friend" for dead, he now walks the Gungeon with the intent of displaying his white privilege and opressing the population with forced discounts and the capability to illegally lockpick chests.

Now I will admit that I have only put in 4 hours into this game so far, but the issues presented in this game will not stand and I will refuse to play this game until these problems are taken care of.

Why do people write reviews for literally just an unlock, lol. You just buy it to support the devs even more, and believe me, they're worth supporting. Writing this review to fix the rating, so that people don't get offput by the "Mixed" score.

As others mentioned, on first sight it may look like just 2D Isaac.

But there's more to it; much more. The gameplay is really engaging, it's a fresh experience. Enemies (and bosses) are really, really well done and there's a lot of detail in this game. It has a difficulty curve that just keeps growing with levels and I'm really into that. The developer has a good idea with the items - not only is DPS the way to win the game, agility items are really great and can carry you if you're good enough.

Art: 9/10 | Really fits the mood of the game, some things are not initially obvious (like spikes).
Gameplay: 9/10 | As mentioned before, a really good example of a fair and fun 2D roguelite. DPS is not the only way to go.
Music: 9/10 | Just like the art, it fits the mood of the game.
Sound Effects: 9/10 | Awesome. The detail is really nice, for example on The Mask boss.
Items: 9/10 | Nothing bad to say here.

Total: 45/50 | Really, really good. Must-have for a roguelite lover. It's also pretty cheap.

Kids are mad because they made this game a bit harder while also adding a lot of buffs to previously useless items like Butter Bean or Crack the Sky.

Definitely recommend, 11/10.
