Sandbox and freeroam games were 2012 - 2014’s big thing.

Garry’s Mod - The sandbox, free roam game built from Half Life 2’s game engine - has been rebuilt from scratch. Garry’s Mod being first launched in 2006 the game turns Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 into a virtual construction kit for all ages. Originally the game was based on the Valve Source engine, Garry’s Mod 13 has It’s own compatible rendering engine - killing the system of many bugs and enabling it to be used without Its sister Half Life 2.

Gamemodes created by community give the users many options over what they would like to do, Sandbox games give users control over virtual worlds. In minecraft creative mode - the builder is given a menu of all different materials or blocks which they can use to build their virtual fantasy world. In Garry’s Mod, the elements & physical properties are determined by the entities and maps which have been extracted from family games such as HL2 and TF2.

The game begins for the first time at a menu which gives options to play online with friends or singleplayer with the standard pre-installed maps gm_flatgrass and gm_construct - kind of like minecraft’s design but with more configurable options.. In-game hints are automatically enabled for the user prompting them on first spawn to hold “Q” on their keyboard bringing them to a dialogue full of Garry’s elements from spawnable NPCs to weapons, furniture and building props.

- Game can be very Laggy at times ( Even with a great computer )
