This game's basically fallout 4 in space, there's little changes to the gameplay loop from fallout 4 and its immediately noticeable, weapon modding, researching, outpost building, looting, and more are basically just ported straight in from fallout 4/76. If you didn't like fallout 4 then you will not like this game, luckily for me I do.

Pros:
- Lots of content (main quest, quests you can do for certain factions that are pretty cool, and side quests)
- Gunplay is much better than fallout 4
- Ship combat is fun because of boarding and targeting
- Ship builder is very cool
- Classic bethesda game loop
- The "powers" are cool but very op (if you know you know)

Cons:
- Planets are very empty (2-4 structures wherever you land with them being basically the same 2-4 on every other planet)
- Exploration is not a thing in this game, this is a quest driven game
- Fast travel is basically all you do to get around with the occasional jog here and there
- Little innovation since fallout 4
- Game's difficulty is super varied, on the highest difficulty ship combat is very very hard but everything else is relatively super easy
- Bethesda NPCs (dumb as bricks)
- Runs like sh!t on my 6700xt and medium-low settings
- Looks like sh!t even on the highest graphics
= And the deal breaker for me, I ran into a game breaking bug, more details below

and for my biggest con, which is basically the entire reason I don't recommend this game, during a faction questline that I was very invested in and really wanted to finish (crimson fleet), the quest completely sh!t itself. I was supposed to wait for credits to transfer but it got stuck and they'd never transfer, I was also locked in a room where the door wouldn't open until the transfer was complete and couldn't fast travel or load a save because my last save was from 10 hours ago and my quicksave was after the quest broke. If I paid 100 dollars for this game (it came free for me with my gfx card), I would've been absolutely livid, and even though it was free, I was still mad. Luckily mods are a thing and I was able to clip through a wall and keep achievements on but I shouldn't have had to do that at all in the first place. Also, the quest is still not fixed and I'm unable to complete that questline because of it. It's sad, at first I was having a ton of fun with the game and thought that most settlements on planets were different and I could find new ones, but the settlements, and subsequently mission board missions, are all basically the same, again, NO exploration. I'm also disappointed that bethesda decided to not innovate at all on their gameplay loop and only decided to add a few features that add little to the game overall. This game is fallout 4, with a space themed coat of paint over it.

If you do want to play the game bethesda actually promised us, I heard no man's sky just keeps getting better and better and has actual exploration as a gameplay mechanic

Its still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing, the respawn servers dont work (Yes they do! check edit) because they pretty much abandoned the game for apex legends, but if you just download northstar (3rd party client to prevent cheating, ddosing, and the other things that have plagued this game since respawn left it to die) you can get a match very easily, literally took me one 2 minute youtube video to get it working, the games still as good as it was when it came out in 2016, and for 3 dollars??? what a steal

Update: the respawn servers actually DO work surprisingly (though when theres 21k people on you might have 1 crash on you every now and then) and you don't need northstar to play! Even better

tldr: fun, very detailed, straight-forward, looks like dark souls but much easier, BUT has a sketchy anti-cheat, which is why i stopped playing and can't reccomend this.

I had fun for the two hours I played, I was expecting top down dark souls but this game is more comparable to something like runescape or wizard 101 with classic arcade style top down combat, and is much easier than dark souls. I would've likely kept playing if I didn't stumble upon a few troubling posts regarding this game's anti cheat, if you want to learn more I'd encourage you to do your own research, but to sum it up, it's sketchy. Simply uninstalling the game doesn't get rid of it either, luckily the developers provide a tool to uninstall the anti-cheat. If it weren't for this, I'd continue playing, and if it ever is fixed and I somehow re-stumble upon this game, I'll give it another go.
