This review is literally just me rambling

Incredible game, both competitively and casually. Competitive gameplay feels smooth, with fun movement, satisfying combos, and a surprisingly balanced roster. This game was designed around competitive play, and it shows. Each character feels viable and is fun to play, with each character having a very pronounced playstyle. The balance is shockingly good, and every character is viable. There's also a wide variety of stages to choose from, all of which are built around competitive play.
Mechanics-wise, Rivals uses a unique parry mechanic that puts your opponent in a temporary stun that provides an opportunity for you to start a combo or get a kill rather than using shields and grabs, which helps make the game feel more fast-paced along with having movement options like wavedashing. DI feels much more pronounced in this game than in smash (coming from ultimate) and results in feeling much more in control in disadvantage, which also makes combos much more interesting to do. Combos feel incredible, with the every character's moveset encouraging combos. Having great combo tools that do considerable amounts of hitstun along with the fact that DI is strong leads to an extremely satisfying combo game.
Online, the game is currently delay-based, but there's minimal input delay (unlike a certain other popular platform fighter) and rollback is coming sometime this summer, which will be even smoother.

Casually, vanilla Rivals isn't the greatest experience, but with workshop support, there's an endless pool of characters and maps to choose from. There are also alternative gamemodes like abyss mode and rivals of tether. Abyss mode is a wave based mode where each wave has a different challenge. This mode gets repetitive quick, and the challenges start looping after 15 rounds, but trying out different rune combinations is fun. Tetherball is actually really fun, but I don't have too much to say about it.

There are some very minor complaints I have about the game, like how some stages are locked behind beating story mode, which isn't very fun, and the occasional bug or two (haven't seen any that affect gameplay though, which is nice)
From a competitive standpoint, I'd give Rivals a 9.5/10, with half a point being knocked off for some minor things, but almost everything feels perfect. Casually though, the game is probably more of a 7/10 as most of the game's content is built around competitive play. I 100% recommend buying this if you enjoy competitive smash or any other platform fighter.

One of my favorite games, if not my number one. I've spent ~300 hours playing and have been playing since beta. I've had many adventures from fighting a pirate-penguin to saving the world. The music is amazing and gameplay is great, and has lots of replay value. There are infinite things to do from building a giant house to exploring planets. I'll never forget the memories made playing with my friends.
What do you do once you've played through Starbound 20 times? You get mods, of course! Mods can completely chamge your experience, from adding races to the stock 7, to adding a completely new UI, new enemies, or even new abilities like rewinding time!

This game is an unforgettable experience and I would definitely reccomend it to any gamer, casual or competitive.
