A game that will probably rank highly on people's favorites of this decade. It's a great spin on the AC4/4a formula. It does take some inspiration from souls games and mostly Sekiro due to the shared director, but I think it created a new and interesting experience by putting some of that game design against the gameplay of Armored Core. It's still Armored Core though, it may look like it plays a bit different due to some of the changes to the controls, but it definitely feels just like Armored Core 4 when I played it.
There are times when the game will be difficult, you most likely just have to adapt by improvement or by changing your build to something that counters the boss. It's a contrast to the run & gun gameplay that I experienced in AC4 where you can clear a level with any build. There is a much higher emphasis on build configurations for bosses. This also elevates other weapon types to actually be used. I had a lot of fun experimenting with explosive, ballistic, melee, and energy builds whereas I mostly just used ballistic weapons in AC4.
The game length is relatively short, but the content is dense and there are no dry moments. The narrative in this game was also a step up from AC4 where I could actually understand fully what the story was about and what the characters motives were. It's not a complicated story by any means, but that does not make it a bad one. It still has some memorable moments that were greatly executed. At it's core it respects and understands that it is a game, this isn't a playable movie.
Additionally, the game has a very beautiful art direction that takes it's time showing itself in demo reel-like cinematics with stellar composition. It is not graphically advanced by any means, but the choices and vision of the artists really shows when you play this game.
