I really wanted to like this game. I had a lot of fun with the first one in the series and playing through it is an awesome experience. However, besides the graphical upgrade, Sons of the Forest doesn't really add much in terms of gameplay and the plot is nonsensical. The building is much worse than the first game and a lot of simple items like traps, rafts, etc. are not available to use.

The map is too big for the amount of content and most of it is completely devoid of features. This is something that will probably get better with future updates but is frustrating to experience after waiting so long for a release.

The biggest problem with the game is the amount of bugs. Bugged flasks, sound issues, accidental invulnerability, etc. I ran into a lot of them and while reloading the game works occasionally, it didn't always fix the issue right away. I know this is an early access title but for $30 I think fans of the first game are better of waiting for more features and bug fixes.

It's not entirely bad, the graphics are very improved from the first game and the two companion characters are a cool addition as well. I also like some of the new mutant designs and the cannibal AI is smarter and reacts to the player in some interesting ways.

Hoping to revisit this review when some more of the bugs are fixed and the features are fleshed out better.

Very fun game if you have friends.

Awesome game, just as great as I remember. Also it's on PC which means basically unlimited new maps, mods, units, and eras.
