A unique, fun glimpse of an interesting world and story, with a good marriage between more modern mechanics and design choices and DOOM's pristine movement and combat. Unfortunately, this game also severly lacks some key aspects that would make the overall experience more enjoyable and replayable.

Being low on difficulty when compared to others of its genre makes the overall combat experience less than engaging, most encounters being limited to linear corridors and big open arenas means there's little diversity in the way the player deals with combat. Additionally, most weapons being straight upgrades to the previous one lead to stagnation quite quickly. Monster attacks very infrequently feel threatening because, in spite of their high damage, they are exceedingly easy to avoid, as well as the monsters themselves being very easy to defeat in general.

The addition of a hard mode, respawning monsters on save points, and more resource management like ammo use for weapons would definitely make the game less of a steamroll, as well as making health upgrades less powerful or harder to reach.

Overall, the game is carried by its great use of traversal and visual design, as well as the lore and worldbuilding that's left up to the player to encounter, but is definitely in need of improvement in aspects that would make it a truly great shooter.
