Summary:
Wytchwood is a short, quirky game that has an excellent foundation of gameplay and a fabulous art style. Some aspects can feel overly stretched out and some pieces feel less developed than others. By the end of the game, you'll feel irate at the wasted potential with this.
If you're looking for a game to wile away a few hours and one that lets your magpie brain go wild whilst looking pretty, look no further. However, don't expect the game to blow your socks off.

Full Review
(Spoilers Ahead)

There's not many games I feel the need to review, yet Wytchwood's potential has me so irate that I felt compelled to leave some feedback. After completing the game, I would recommend it, but there are a few caveats to that below.

The Good:

For starters, the graphical style is wonderful to this game. I truly loved the environments throughout and I really enjoy the tiny world that has been weaved together here. Even in spaces that're underutilised, it feels like the developers took time and care to put the set pieces together. Toddling around in the world as the Witch, I felt myself smiling at all the little pieces.

In terms of gameplay, I think the foundation of the game is solid. Fetch quests are some of the most tedious in games, but pottering along in the game and working along the lines created by the crafting system felt cosy almost. At its fundamental, the developers hit onto a nice sweet spot for the start, although it lets itself down as the game goes on (see below)

The story elements as well are terrific. Whilst not all Twelve Souls are equally weighted, there are some shining examples in there. I truly loved the inventive pieces in the game - being swallowed by the Serpent to free the Captain was fun and I loved to see the game put this to use . I also loved the strong characterisation that can be found throughout the game - the Souls had personalities and felt well written in this regard.

The Bad:

If there could be a tagline for this game, it would be "Stretched out unnecessarily".
Between unused spaces in the map, filler Souls who felt like they had to be brushed away quickly and a lack of progression in how you collect items past Act 1, it feels like the developers were constantly just trying to make the game longer for no reason.

This is frustrating to me as there were the beginnings of great ideas in this (the additional gameplay aspects, such as The Wolf chase or the quiz to gain entry to the serpent's mouth. The Wytchwater well in the Graveyard that allowed you to just get a secondary item. The portals to shortcut around.) that then just got tossed to the wayside to make way for padding the game instead. This potential is absolutely there and I wish it had been explored more within the game.

It also just felt like it held hands too much at times. With the quest for The Wolf's soul, after you go the wrong way once with the Owl's instructions, it just tells you what they mean. I much prefer a game to show and not tell - I want to work this out for myself! Those small areas of spoonfeeding feel disappointing, as they take away player agency and leave you feeling like you accidentally pressed a skip button.

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed this game, make no mistake about that. It took me a few sittings, but I made sure to complete it. I wanted to see the end of this and I'm keen to see the developers update further and let us find out what's in The Well and flesh out the ending a tad more. I'm happy with the £15~ I spent on this game, but would probably recommend to pick it up for £10.

Instead of giving the shortest review of a sentence that people have seemed to given, I've got an actual review. To anybody who has not played the first season to begin with, I suggest buying that first, or you simply will not enjoy the game to it's best potential. In relation to it's predecessor, the Walking Dead Season 2 is a remarkable game. Telltale seem to have taken their base game and feedback and improved upon it excessively. To begin with, the normal overlay has been edited to be more eye-catching and simple to allow for a balance, to give a fresh feel to the overlays, as well as improving the graphics wildly with this change and even giving revamps of the Season 1 Cutscenes into HD for the starting titles. It has also allowed for more effective animations and less lag within the game, spec wise improving greatly from where the last game knocked off, preventing more of such bugs as walking glitches and cutscene lag. Story wise- Well. You can't say anything. Telltale seems to strike at every moment they can with their games and have yet again woven an encaptivating tale that is absolutely brilliant! I loved the first episode, if a little short and cannot wait for the second. So far, they have expressed many subtle changes that are seen only from the most skilled writers and I cannot fathom how anyone could not enjoy this storyline and how they express the dire situation of a little girl in a post-apocalyptic world. To anybody who reads this- Buy this game and the first. You will not regret it and will be greatly impressed by Telltale's work.
