Gameplay is solid and fun. There is a surprising amount of customization in the game.
Unfortunately, for free-to-play players, there's not much offered. Free players can do the battle pass but it doesn't offer anything good.

If you're looking for a fair and balanced ranked experience, keep looking. The matchmaking is the worst I've seen in a game. I had about four hours of play when I completed the requirements to play ranked games. In my first ranked game, I was matched against four Top 100 players, with none on my team. We got destroyed.
My second game, I matched against five Top 100 players, with four of them the same four from before. This leads me to believe the top players are grouping up to farm rank, or only about twenty people are playing ranked. The queue times were pretty long so it is probably the latter. There is no reason a brand new player should be matched against anyone in the Top 100 or Top 500 or Top whatever it is.

That being said, there are a lot of people just playing casually. If you like to play normal unranked games, it's fine.

I might come back to the game when the matchmaking gets better, but for right now, it's going back on the shelf.

Edit: PvE mode is interesting. The game is fun at its core.

There's just so much wrong with this game right now, and I don't think TRS has the ability to make this the great game it could be. Monthly patches are not frequent enough for the state of this game.

Edit: I started playing again August of 2022. The game is in a much better state than it was. The difficulty spike between Recruit and Veteran has been smoothed out. A lot of the bugs and frustrations have been fixed/removed. There is a slight lag issue with Ridden spawns and certain Ridden themselves, but mostly everything I had a problem with last year has been fixed. Also, Tunnels of Terror adds Ridden Hives, which are a lot of fun. I recommend the game now.

I play a warframe that destroys enemy bodies by crushing every single one of their bones. 10/10
