"A Murder Party!"

It feels like eons ago that this game dropped for the 360 and -the loyal Gears fan, then and now- willingly plonked down my $60 and dove in. And in the blink of an eye, it was over. Like a blood-spattered, firefight-filled fever-dream. However, its brevity may have kept it out of the bargain bin for a few extra months, for the gameplay can repeat itself before long. And then there's the graphics. There's some wonky collision and the cutscene/cinematic models are as nightmarishly bad as I remember, but minutes later you'll be fighting a dozen screaming enemies on a dam while a jaw-dropping vista blooms all around you. Rushed development cycle, maybe? Who knows. But I'll wager the reason why this game is getting a re-mastered re-release is because the pacing and the presentation are Grade Triple-A++ caliber. This game is hard to put down! Grayson Hunt's visit to the doomed resort planet, Stygia, is a linear affair, but this keeps the action moving at a breakneck speed. Virtuoso voice actor Steve Bloom bellows a particularly memorable performance as Hunt, the game's not-so-silent protagonist. The musical score deserves a review all its own. Seriously. It is so good it's distracting.

Bulletstorm is a beautiful, glistening, snot-rocket fired squarely into the eye of anyone who thinks that just because something is gratuitous, vulgar, and silly, doesn't mean it can't also have substance.
A wonderful game that, if on sale, SHOULD NOT BE MISSED.

On the Screwattack Scale (Buy It/Borrow It/***k It): BUY IT!!!
