Environmental Station Alpha is a Metroid, plain and simple. If you can appreciate its graphical stylings and tolerate its sometimes punishing boss battles, ESA offers an insanely engaging mental and physical challenge and a game world so chock-full of secret routes, secret puzzles, and secret bosses you could probably fill 150% of any other game's completion meter. Even the soundtrack can stand on its own, perfectly delivering on the aura of a space station in disrepair.

A solid 4/5. Took it easy through my first playthrough and realized later that literally everything I'd chosen to do or not do or perhaps not even noticed was weighing on the remainder of the gameplay. Deserves multiple playthroughs.
