When I first bought the game, I wasn't expecting too much. Squirrels are adorable, I like the platformer genre, I figured anybody who made a squirrel platformer deserved some money, but odds were the game would only be held up by its graphics (if that) and not by its quality. HOW VERY WRONG I WAS. This is by far the best precision platformer I've played in a long time. The levels are challenging when played on EASY (I'm a NES and SNES console kid - so take that how you will), but not senselessly brutal, and each one is unique, not regurgitated code / re-skinned design. There are numerous "worlds", that follow a given theme - forest, arctic, industrial, etc.,. each with a series of 10-12 levels to complete, including a boss at the end of each world. Each level entails a moderately challenging first half to give you a feel for the level's unique mechanics, a save/re-spawn point sandwiched in the middle, and then a harder second half. It is a one-hit kills you kind of game, but there isn't a limit to the number of lives you use in a level or a world, death simply forces you to re-spawn at the beginning of the level or the mid-way re-spawn point if you made it that far. You will die repeatedly, and the developer obviously knew this, and subsequently was smart and kind enough to make the death to re-spawn screen re-load instantaneous so you're not sitting there tapping through "do you want to continue?" menu nonsense. There are also collectible items sprinkled throughout the worlds including cartridges that unlock mini games in the start menu, as well as hidden golden acorns (not sure of their purpose yet). Lastly, you never really know what to expect for the controls on lower priced platformers and that's a make or break deal with this genre - rest assured, this developer knew what they were doing. The effect increased momentum gained before jumping has, and the visible result of holding longer/pressing harder, etc... are intuitive. You won't ever find yourself frustrated at unexpected results. If you die, it's because you screwed up, not because of the controls. Definitely worth the money! If you like challenging precision platformers, I cannot recommend this game enough.
