This is a one of a kind game where it feel like your on the fly planning and decision making really shine through. All the maps will feel familiar once you've seen the tile sets a few times, but each one always plays out differently and I don't feel like I'm rinse and repeating any type of peak or strategy like I would a normal FPS. Obviously having someone strategically minded helps for your initial planning, but when that plan falls apart the mid round adjustments are what make this game really exciting for me. On top of that the unique economy system is currently a huge plus.

There are some pretty annoying bugs, but most of them revolve around the lobby system and joining servers. The only gameplay bug which sometimes happens is clipping through walls enough to get zapped for being outside the map as defender, but I've always been able to save myself from that. I really hope that this game maintains a strong core playerbase because the core gameplay is engaging. As long as you can still get a queue (currently they are almost instant for casual NA during evening and night), I will keep playing.

I played LEGO Star Wars, (all of them) LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Island, etc when I was younger. My girlfriend likes Lord of the Rings and I figured LEGO games would be up her alley, so we hopped on this.

Just finished 100% last night.

Pros:
I liked how the levels are pretty set to the movie, it was fun to play along with some lego humor.
Secret areas, bonus levels, this game is really fun to 100%
Open world is where it shines, they let a lot more LEGO humor here and you get a lot of solid exploration.
Cast, literally play as anyone you could think of from LotR.

Cons (basically what you expect from a lego game):
Limiting explosive mechanic to one character (that you wouldn't think to buy)
Some of the jumps are super finicky
Forging takes 3 cutscenes
Soft locking levels (happened twice in 33 hours)
Some of the levels are really not meant for co-op (obviously might not be a problem for you)
EDIT: Forgot about this, boss fights are terrible, but luckily infrequent

In the end we only had to google 5ish things to complete our 100% and had a ton of fun
9/10 if you're willing to go past the levels.
6/10 if you never touch freeplay.

Defintely snag this on sale, great value for 5 dollars.
