Additional preface added 2022-11-08:
Dead Cells is still getting patches, free updates and paid DLC that brings in new weapons, zones and more. You can tell Motion Twin still really cares about the game as well.
Dead Cells has become a comfort game to me over the years. It is tough game, making it easy to focus on, but not to the point where it becomes unhealthy. Yet it still feels like home every time I return to it. It's easily become one of my favourite games of all time. I can't recommend it enough.

Original Review:
An absolute timesink of a game. Gorgeous pixelart style with incredibly smooth animations. Combat and movement is super smooth and rewarding. As you progress you gain more and more abilities and items that will unlock parts of the game you haven't been able to go to before. This keeps the game fairly fresh. The difficulty level also increases with that.
The bosses aren't the hardest ones I've fought in games but they can be tough depending on the loot and build you have. So there's obviously an element of RNG to the game, but for the most part it rewards smart play and skills.
The developers also added custom game modes with a recent update, as well as some other balance changes to mechanics and items. There is also a customisable streaming mode that hooks into your twitch chat, which allows for viewer interaction inside the game and can make the game more interesting/difficult.
If you're looking for a Metroidvania or Rougelike type game that feels great and has a lot of replayability, be sure to pick this up. I wholeheartedly recommend Dead Cells :)
