Short review: If I hadn't kickstarted this game, I would have refunded it.

Long review:
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to love when you at first start playing this game, gorgeous graphics, beautiful music, an intriguing world, interesting enemy design,...

The experience is however ruined by a game that has only one difficulty setting, and that one setting is onerously unfair. This game's idea of difficulty is throwing wave after wave of enemies at you at once, making it essentially more of bullet hell game than anything else. Upgrades exist, but will barely improve your survival chances.
The main character is slow, unresponsive (30 fps ahoy) and has a far to large hitbox, making enemies with projectiles a hassle to deal with.

The game leaves you completely free to choose the order in which you tackle the different area's and their respective bosses, but these regions are definitely not balanced, and 1 of the bosses is a lot harder than all of the others.

To top it off, the chain dashing mechanic required by the game to obtain currency for upgrades and key for completing the game, essentially locks these items behind a deeply frustrating rythm mechanic for which there's barely any proper cue which is the proper rythm unless you crank the sfx volume way up, what's even worse is that the animations don't sync with this rythm.

The developers and fans of the game cite a Dark Souls inspiration or even a Zelda one, and try to justify the difficulty of this game in doing so. It seems to me they've clearly never played those games. While Dark Souls may be hard, it's definitely not unfair, this game is. Although the difficulty in Zelda ramps up throughout the game, it never really becomes overly hard, and genereously awards players with more and more equipment and health to take on tougher enemies, don't expect such generosity here however...

All in all, this could have been a great game, but it has been ruined by the developer's choice that only those with the perseverance and the time to suffer through their random mechanics get to enjoy the game. After dying countless times on yet another impossible path, I simply gave up.

Do not buy this game if you own a recent AMD Graphics Card (Radeon R2 or R3 series).
The game is rendered unplayable by a graphics bug that gives all characters thick black edges.

The content of the game itself is rather enjoyable and would have been worth a good recommendation. Sadly the technical issues and the fact that Telltale has been ignoring them for over 10 months now, make for a negative review as far as I am concerned.

I played the first four episodes on my previous desktop, but now due to an "upgrade" am stuck with a dead game in my library. "Thanks" Telltale.
