This game is VERY good.

If you have any expectations of good writing, DO NOT beat it. The game was written great! The ending seems like it was written while the original writer had a stroke and accidentally dropped the original script in a blender. Then had a vagrant smoking crack write it.

The ending throws away ALL atmosphere, weight, and characterisation for a LITERAL Deus Ex Machina, involving characters we do not meet until the ending.

It was the biggest let down for what was a REALLY enjoyable story till then.

This game oozes charm and character in every aspect of it's design.

The gameplay is as tight as the Paper Mario it's based off of if not even more so, and the characters are full of personality. The world is vibrant and adorable in some places and wonderfully oppressive in others, with music is so catchy and fitting I've never once considered muting it. I'm currently replaying it with some bonus modes enabled that really up the replay value, which there are a few of! It's a cherry on top since I wanted to experience the story and foreshadowing again after 100%ing my first playthough.

The story itself is a fun adventure that gears up in it's depth and severity very nicely in the second half, with some drama as well for those who look beyond only the main quest!

Simply put you can feel the love the developers put into this game, it shows in a finished package that feels very complete. I loved it, that's why I'm playing it twice back to back.

Highly recommended.

Soundtrack rocks.

It's an adventure roguelike as opposed to a dungeon crawling roguelike.
