Back when I made models for my maps I used 3ds Max, but I use Blender now and it's honestly a lot better. For textures I used Photoshop CS2 because they had given away for free a while back.

I know the question wasn't directed at me but I'd recommend using something like photoshop or paint.net since I've been using those for a while for that stuff and it's been working great (for posters, walls and textures) but for models I'd recommend blender, there is also C4D and 3DMax but they are hard to learn.
