On of the best games in the genre, just not the best (still, RE2 "Remade" remain the current leader, in my opinion).
A 9 out of 10 for sure!

Ehm... I feel I could be important, sadly :( I mean, this was one of the main problems with the game: the ending is pretty satisfying, but they choose to create two major DLC that extend the story and "complete" some parts of it. These are two very good "parallel" adventures, with two different co-protagonists of the main game. I think they are well worth the price, but they are not, fortunately, contents that were "cutted" from the main game :) Ah, the "medium" standard difficulty is pretty tough, especially because of the main bosses, so, maybe think about playing the Easy one! I see you are playing SOMA! That is really a classic for me! I really loved it :)

I never got to play any of the Resident Evil games, but I did play the demo of RE7, and am planning on purchasing it. Do you think it's necessary to get the Gold Edition with the DLCs?

Hi Dryspace, how are you? :) For what can I say, surely the graphics compartment of RE2 remake is really a great thing: it balance the use of old "models" and styles but with a modern set and technologies. I would say that the pure gameplay have changed, but still remains a "classical" RE. I don't mind this, but it's my opinion. So, I really concur with you that a possibility to change between a more modern style of gameplay, or remaining with the older ones would have been... really awesome! But still, on PC, RE2 remake works BETTER than RE7 (that, as I said, I consider a great game, but not a classic: too many problems with the PC port... sadly!). Have you played one of them or both?

Would you say the new games are true remakes?

There have hardly ever been games that are truly remade, scrupulously adhering to the spirit of the original, while using state-of-the-art technology to improve visuals, and improving only aspects of gameplay that are clearly flawed from a modern perspective (though there should be the option to enable the original aspects).
