I like Trine I do. I wish I was allowed to give a middle review to games however steam refuses to let me do so. In which I will have to give this game a thumbs up, yet there are still things I have to say about this game. Trine is a great series, a great game, a great group of people who make wholesome and fun games. Yet the more Trines they come out with the more it becomes apparent that this game has strayed further from what it is origin.

Allow me to explain the thing that made Trine 1 so interesting and amazing was that it was a game that you could be played in any of the three ways they gave to you. It allowed you to play your way, to find your own solutions to the problems the game puts before you. Enemies? Kill them, avoid them, trap them, crush them. You could do many different things without being forced to change your own play style. A large pit ahead? Jump it, build around it, fly above it. Each character had a solution to a problem in their own way, sometimes somewhere easier to get to than other for certain situations. Trine 2 was also a improvement on this, though it became more puzzle like and instead of a challenging platformer which is fine.

This brings me to Trine 4 and 5 (We dont talk about 3). It goes from playing your way to playing the way that is provided to you. Puzzles are mandatory, you have to find a certain solution to already developed problem in your path. You are not allowed to progress until you discover the solution they want you to discover. There is nothing wrong with this, it is just a shift in gameplay compared to the first two games.

I like Trine, I have played every game they have put out. But I do miss the days of fun exploration that Trine 1 and 2 provided to us. Instead of being forced to engage in puzzles to pad out play time. I wish to explore the world of Trine freely and unhindered. The world you have made is a joy and sometimes I feel bogged down being forced engage in ways I wouldnt normally. Yet still I persist. This game. It is good.

It is worth your time. I am just rambling upon days gone by, things change, nothing always stays the same and this is fine. There is passion in this project and it shows as always. I hope Trine continues to succeed.
