DEFINITION OF A MOO COW:

A distinct subspecies of cow. Noticeably different from the non-moo-cows as the moo-cow actually moo's.

Bob: Hey, look at the cows; they're mooing.

Wilbur: Those aren't cows, those are moo-cows.

Bob: What's the difference?

Wilbur: Cows don't moo... Moo-cows moo.

Hacking, Winning, and Teamwork in CS:GO
The diversity in Counter Strike Global Offensive is evident in the varying degrees of skills and abilities of it's players. Valve, the company that own's CS:GO, added the matchmaking ranking feature to the game in order to more accurately identify players' skills comparitive to others in the game. In theory, this should create an experience in matchmaking competitive play where the competiting teams are, atleast roughly, of the same skill. However, in reality there are players of lesser skill that use illegitimate software assistance to bolster their gameplay, which gives them an unfair and usually unbeatable advantage against players without assistance tools. This results in an unenjoyable and often frustrating experience for those disadvantaged users, is harmful for the Counter Strike community, and through use of modifying software, is breaching user-rights and violating the intellectual property that belongs to Valve.

Ad-hoc, my experience playing Counter Strike versions 1-1.6, Source, and Global Offensive, as well as my competitive rank of Supreme Master First Class (Wins: 240), and extensive "Overwatch" involvement, has granted me several interactions with hackers. Previously, I addressed the issue of how to identify a hacker, however here I would rather address their behaviours, that is the typology of a hacker. Although frequently seen in non-competitive settings, hackers are prevelant in competitive matchmaking, usually characterised by new accounts and partied up with other players. Ad-hoc, the CS:GO community is comprised of mostly young males, especially those in their teens, but malso many in their early twenties. Lack of maturity, anonymity granted by the internet, and the sense of empowerment of having an advantage of others, often combines and shapes the hacker's behaviour, and their friend's, as anti-social and unsportsman-like. Commonly, an accusation against a hacker that they are illegitmately granting themselves an advantage are retorted by counter-accusations, denial, and taunts. Although it can be argued that such accusations are the basis for those anti-social responses, it should be noted that a constructive/logical accusation should equally be met by a constructive/logical response. Hackers do not respond with constructive or logical responses to your queries, however this is due more to their inexperience, lack of skill, and poor abilities, for them to recognise a point of view that analytically has a more thorough understanding of the game, and the finese that is absent in hacker's player, whilst being fluent in the styles of some of the game's very best.

There is always two sides of winning; the team that wins, and the team that loses. As CS:GO is recognised as an e-Sport, good sportsmanship and pro-competitive behaviour's are important factors that should characterise our community. For example, in physical sporting codes, such as football, rugby, and so forth, they are largely guided under morals and values that uphold the integrity of being a good sport, gracious in victory, and even more so in defeat. Playing a good opponent, and losing, is a much more enjoyable experience when the opposition are not immature, hacking, or are generally unpleasent opponents. Although concern for other players, especially the enemy, may not be an immediate priority in game, the CS:GO community should remember that this game is only made possible from the existence of multiplayer, that is, other people are directly involved in the possibility for you to enjoy the game. I would largely credit anti-social behaviours to the fact that the internet is an anonymous platform, however, simply put, if nobody else played the game, you would not be able to enjoy the game. It would be good to see behaviours and sportsmanship that resembles traditional sports, so to elevate the status of e-Sports to be on par with other sporting codes.

Lastly, CS:GO is inherently a team based game; the best team will usually win at the end of the day. Previously, I mentioned that winning has two sides and that CS:GO as an e-Sport should resemble traditional sporting codes. In competitive play there is always a loser and in CS:GO you will either win or lose as a team. This is a given, however it is up to individuals the team how they handle unfavourable situations; broadly speaking you can either be a constructive or unconstructive teammate, and overall have a positive or destructive impact on the team's performance. I will address the latter; the unconstrucive/anti-social teammate. These players are characterised by players that do not communicate with teammates, will not listen or constructively work with a team, and are playing for themselves. Often, when things go bad, as with all players, they will become frustrated, however they will take their frustrations out on team members, usually those who are performing poorly. If a team fights within themselves, how are they meant to collectively fight the enemy? (food for thought). Furthermore, players that are boosted or that have illegitemately achieved their rank also populate this demographic as their lack of skill or ability directly contributes to the negative chance's of the team's success. Consequently, unconstructive teammates sow their own demise through turning against rather than working with their team-mates, rather than setting aside their frustrations and considering team dillemas as challenges that can be constructively overcome, assuming that team mates themselves are willing to be constructive, they attack their own team and have a negative perspective that only hinder's their team's chance of success.

The constructive team-mate is what players should aspire to be. These are team-players, much valued in physical sporting codes and e-Sports alike. They are not always the best skilled individual's, however they excel at realising team goals before their own, and recognise that their personal success in CS:GO largely rests upon the success of their team. Being a constructive team mate does not mean ignoring the bads or mishaps of team mates, rather than critiquing factors of skill or gameplay, it is important to foster confidence and strength in a team mate's abilities. Believing that a team-mate will perform is an abundance more inspirational for them than their perception that you believe they are an inept player. Often, good players will have bad games, and often players that you play with will not be capable of performing to a standard that you expect of them. Each player has a different style and skill set. Constructive players understand that lossing is a thing that happens, every team loses sometime, the best result from a loss is learning not only what went wrong, but more importantly how the self, and the team, can improve. Previously I mentioned that an individual's CS:GO experience is directly shaped by other's because it is inherently a multiplayer game. Likewise, CS:GO is a team-based game, and treatment of other's can not only dictate one's own enjoyment, but also the likelihood of success in winning games. The best mentality is a team mentality, and when lossing the strongest piece of advice I would give a team is that it is the opposition's game to lose, and ours to win. Simply put, willingness and the strength to remain a singular unit in CS:GO, that is one team comprised of 5 individuals, will always be the best way to win in competitive play.
