One of the greatest DLCs in my opinion, for all games with DLC's I've ever played.
The story is fascinating, plays to its strengths with great design, new terrains and even choosing your side in the end, not to mention the revamping of vampires, werewolfs, and addition of crossbows.
I especially like to contrast it with Skyrim's main story which, admittedly, felt boring and flat comparatively as a bunch of disconnected quests. Dawnguard, however, always makes you feel like the next step is the logical step, plus the great companion, Serana, which is a greatly-designed character altogether, gives you a sense of "reason", as in why you are doing this questline.
In all honesty, this DLC is to me what I expected Skyrim to be. Is it perfect? No. But is it enjoyable, with many memorable moments, intriguing map design, and with substantial additions that can even change the game entirely depending on how you play it? Yes. And while I do not believe it's worth twenty dollars, as it still takes Skyrim as its base, it's a good addition that feels fresh, to the point of when I play Skyrim I create characters JUST for the Dawnguard questline and nothing more.
I recommend you get this when it's at a discount. But if you are sure you'll get a mileage out of it, then I wouldn't blame you if you rushed to get it at full-price.

Though just a bit too pricey for its kind in my opinion, it's one of the nicest RPGs I've seen on Steam, with nice character customization, a variety of weapons, and a lot of nice menu options, such as making a sort of "aid" with your other characters to increase your stats and defense.
The only con, is that after a while it feels repetitive, and as such, it's hard to really get through if you feel such. But another plus, is that it always draws me back, and I always love playing it again, even if it's just a silly experience.
Naturally, the controls flow well, and make it enjoyable to do everything, and with every citizen on the island, you'll have some nice dialogue, sometimes awkward, other times weird, but always nice.
And all the classes are nice too.
