The best Souls game.

Pretty slow, very (very) floaty. I guess there's room for improvement since it's still in development, but don't expect "the PC equivalent to Smash".
Artstyle is subjective, and my subjective opinion is that it looks like a bad Newgrounds game. They would have been better hiring a decent pixel artist and passing it off as a "retro aesthetic".
Some of the characters are pretty cool, but they all feel pretty much the same to play.
It's not terrible, though. I'm sure there's a lot of fun to be had, but the press has been giving it way too much credit.
