I didn't "get it" but I was locked in for the entire ride

all I'm going to say about Pacific Drive is I didn't know a video game could replicate the intimacy you can feel with an everyday piece of machinery

I beat the game and I still don't know why it's called Infinite Wealth

usually when I play a new VR game I think "I just have to sit through the first few parts and it'll get better". but I played this game's tutorial and immediately went "oh ♥♥♥♥ yes"

I was really excited for this but it plays pretty bad. there are literally 0 graphics options. it stutters like an unreal engine game compiling shaders on the fly (it might actually be). the gunplay feels like it's from some of the first VR games ever made. your hands aren't where they are in real life/rotate on an axis that doesn't make any sense. after every cutscene (there are a lot) the game is pitch black until you press A which there is no prompt for at all. hard difficulty is really easy. not a fun time

the game is good and has a really cool mechanic that's never been done before in any other game that I am aware of. for that alone it deserves praise

the writing/voice acting is pretty bad and feels really forced. characters are constantly just saying out loud what you're doing and telling you you're so smart for doing it. it really doesn't add anything to the game and I wish they would just shut up. the puzzles are overall pretty easy and hearing a character tell me how smart and wonderful I am for solving it just feels patronizing

the end of the game involves a timed segment with a character literally crying/tear-jerking you about what you're doing when you don't have any other choice in doing so and whom also never really gave you any reason to be attached to them to begin with, so it just feels very forced and weird

there's one character that is constantly telling you throughout the game that you should stop going because the answer you seek is not the one you want (the answer you seek is the solution to climate change, and through the whole game you listen to audio logs of scientists/etc trying to solve it). then you get to that answer and it's just a giant minigun pointing at the sky that cartoonishly falls apart after you flip a switch. and all the characters freak out about how the gun fell apart and it's treated like a really emotional moment. it just seemed really silly to me. did not seem fitting at all

the overall plot of the game is about climate change which I agree is a real problem but it's so generic that I wish it were about literally anything else. they're preaching to the choir here. we all know this is bad

overall, good (and easy) puzzle game with a neat gimmick, very bad story and characters/voice acting

edit: I just beat the game and oh my god that was awesome. I would recommend playing on "Hard" difficulty unless you really really think you're some kind of god gamer. I had to knock it down to Hard to finish the game but oh man it was so worth it
