I don't quite understand all the other negative reviews.
In regards to the problems brought up in negative reviews id say this:

*It doesn't feel any less optimized or buggy than any of the other warhammer entries, rome entries, or shogun entries at release. Not exactly a good thing, but not game ruining and expected after what a decade and a half or more of this with CA games?

*The AI does cheat, but that's every CA game. It's the overwhelming majority of games in general, the AI is given unfair advantages that increase with difficulty setting so it can actually pose a challenge to a player. Enemy agent spam is free lunch for your own agents. Enemy stacks not receiving the same debuffs is the only thing that makes them a challenge at all. That the AI can support more armies and thus push them out faster is annoying, but again this is every single CA game and without it the AI would just get steamrolled even harder than it already does.

*The portals don't force you to drop everything and focus on them. You should have multiple stacks by the time they first come up. I would have rather had something similar to WH2 with the ability to block progress and directly interfere with progress though.

The only downside I've experienced is a feeling that the campaign is rather restricted in the options for your initial movements. Some factions like chaos undivided are more or less locked into the exact same plays for the first 15 turns or so with little you can really do different.

I don't like being even more rigidly gated in pacing than the previous entry and the opening moves can get repetitive on replay depending on the specific faction, but its still a good game and i'd recommend it.

good loot shooter. story little juvenile at times, but decent. gameplay is great. can be grindy sometimes, but probably a bit less than a lot of modern games. lot to do and experience.

one of the better SRPGs released in a long time. Hard difficulty is quite hard. There is no Disgaea nonsense here. There is no ffta or ffta2 nonsense. This is a pure SRPG not a Korean grinder pretending to be a SRPG. If you're bad power leveling isn't going to help you much. At least not on hard.

Plays like FFT mixed with either older front mission or tactics ogre. Compared to FFT you have far fewer skills per unit but they all do significantly more (e.g. damage + status or defense + status removal). You can pick up to 6 things from a list of actives, passives and overwatch/reaction skills.

You have limited "casts" of actives per battle, but outside of high tier star spells its hard to run out. There are no items. Passives are basically your items. If your strategy is good you'll progress, if not you wont. Simple as that. If you can't figure it out and refuse to think of some good strategies don't play SRPGs.
