Solving Mysteries And Owning People In Div 3a.
Frank had to to pick up Nancy Drew from the airport. He left the Hardy residence at about 7 pm, but not without his cellphone...just in case.
The journey to the airport went by without incident. When he arrived, Nancy was already by the pickup area with her suitcase. Frank drove up to the curb, parked the car and helped Nancy put her suitcase in the back of the car. Then, he gave Nancy a hug. "How are you doing, Nancy?"
"Fine. My flight wasn't too bad, but the food left a lot to be desired," she sighed.
Frank chuckled, "Since when does airplane food not taste bad?" He opened the passenger side door and Nancy got in. Frank then slid into the driver's seat and they drove away. "Well, unfortunately, the storm closed down the main road, so we'll have to take a slight detour ," he explained.
She merely nodded. Ever since Callie had left Frank, Frank and Nancy had grown closer, although they weren't sure what to make of their developing relationship.
They hadn't gone far onto the dirt road, before something happened. Smoke began billowing out of the engine in Frank's car and he was forced to pull to the side of the road. Groaning, he stopped the car, got out and popped the hood. Once it was open, more smoke poured out.
"Do you know what the problem is?" Nancy asked worriedly.
"I have no clue. It could be an overheated engine or something worse. However, I do have my cellphone with me. I'll call for a tow truck and they can check it out in the morning," Frank said. He tried dialing for the auto repair place, but couldn't get a signal. Then, he groaned as he slapped himself on the forehead. "Stupid me! I should've known! The cell towers are down and the city is trying to repair them. But it looks like they won't be ready until tomorrow morning or perhaps later!" Frank replied, agitated.
"There was nothing you could've done," she reassured him. "But what are we going to do now?"
"I noticed on the way to the airport there is a good sized clearing about 100 feet up ahead. Joe's and my camping supplies are in the trunk so I guess we'll camp," Frank explained.
Nancy agreed to that plan, then helping him drag the supplies out of the trunk.
"I wonder what we're going to do now. I don't have any books to read, games to play and there's no lake nearby to go swimming," Frank speculated.
"I don't know either. I guess we just sit or lay in here until we fall asleep," she replied. Suddenly, she turned to Frank and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. He jumped up in surprise and turned to face her.
What was that for?" he asked, startled but pleased. It appeared that Nancy was going to make the first move and he was going to have to respond in a worthy manner.
"Because I love you, Frank. I always have. But I hadn't been able to do anything until now. Do you love me as well?" Nancy asked.
Yes, I do," he said and then he returned the kiss, only this time it was longer and more intimate. She put her arms around him as they continued to kiss.
