Disclosure: Got a pre-release key from the devs.
Lovely game. Some of the most gorgeous pixel graphics and music you will find. Just having it playing and watching what happens is almost worth the 10 score alone. However it's also a strong game with simple and easy mechanics that will take a while to master. What I like most about it though is that there's no hand holding and the whole game is just full of mystery. These mysteries will probably all be discovered when the game becomes (inevitably) wildly popular, but I'd recommend just going in cold and discovering them yourself. Great game and great passionate devs and publisher you should support so that more things like this get made and released.

I have changed my review to negative to reflect my thoughts better on things that I find troubling about this game.

As a game this game is excellent for the most part ,don't get me wrong. Very good tutorial and rewards for new players and excellent gameplay that uses mechanics that could only be used in a digital format game. The unique gameplay leads to a lot of bluffing and second guessing and there's a lot of variety in deckbuilding. Fine game for people who think Hearthstone may be a little simplistic and MTG is a little corporate. This game is also gorgeous in every way, kudos to the art people and the UI designers.

However my problem with it makes me not want to play it. It is a single problem and it's about the format of the game. It's a collectable card game and I am a veteran of those but this one feels like it steps over a line. I ran the MTG scene in my country, played pro tours and have played a variety of these games including L5R, Netrunner, Vampire, Hearthstone, Scrolls etc so I am coming from a background of knowing these kinds of games intimately.

The main problem is that this game has a really bad system regarding packs and rarity. Firstly packs are very expensive. Secondly legendary cards are very hard to get and are sadly essential to pull of a lot of good decks. It is also very inconsistent which types of cards are legendary and which are not. For instance Martyr Golem does not feel like a legendary card but still is so powerful that you need to have 3 to pull of a few decks. The thing is though that I rarely see Martyr Golems around...because it is so hard to get legendary cards without putting down some serious money so no one has them. Since I started I think I've opened about 70 packs (and note that each pack costs quite a bit). Most of them were from rewards though but I did buy around 20 myself. I've only opened 1 legendary and a handful of epics in those 70 packs which is an awful drop ratio for ultra rare cards. When I purchased my 20 packs I did it one go and didn't open a single Epic or Legendary. I should have uninstalled the game right then and there.

Summary. Great game but don't come near it unless you have a lot of money to spend on it. I don't so I can't really keep on playing sadly. That is why I am giving it a negative review.

Did you play and love Might and Magic 3-5? Or did you play other similar games like Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master, Wizardry or Lands of Lore? Well this game is that, just with modern graphics. If that's the kind of game you're looking for this game is absolutely perfect. I'm lucky that it's probably my favorite genre of games so I love it. If you're looking for Skyrim then look somewhere else...this is an old-school, turn-based combat heavy game.

Well this is a surprise. It's like a board game but really simple and easy to pick up. Takes a lot of elements from roguelike games, X-Com and Space Hulk and blends it together in such a way that I like all of it. Tough but fair but overall just plain fun for anyone that like turn based games. First time an Arcen game has really caught on for me and I hope there's more of polished games like this one to come from them.

If you like roguelike games and some very hardcore gameplay then look no further. It fixes most of the issues with old school rogue games while also having at the same time almost a dwarf fortress level of possible complexity.

Totally recommend this. Looks like Minecraft. Plays like a randomized Thief with Cthulhu elements. Tough and full of great and original things. Get it.
