Pros:

-Neat concept
-Okay graphics
-No ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ zombies
-Core gameplay feels pretty good
-Controls are pretty easy to get used to (standard UE4 first person shooter type stuff)
-Great fun is had building a base and taming dinos with friends

Cons:

-Not well optimized at all; even on good systems the game will struggle to break the 30fps mark
-Multiplayer is largely ruined by griefer-infested public servers; stick to private ones or single player
-You still die and lose your inventory by falling through the world while logged off, the single most obnoxious bug in the game that has existed since its first early access release
-Building/platform placement tools are absolutely abysman, far and away the worst I've seen in a video game.


TL;DR: The game's not actually finished, and they're just pushing it out of early access "on schedule" so they can hike the price. They're probably revenue-starved after the lawsuit payout, and I'm guessing selling a paid expansion for the unreleased and unfinished base game wasn't enough to make up for that loss.
