-You'll need two gems of item level 30+, you happen to have 2 item level 36 fire gems and one item level 42 fire gem.
-You can use any two of these to transmute, the sensible thing is to use your lowest level gems, so that's two level 36 fire gems.
-Let's say the transmuter gives one socket on the ring.
-You now have the one gem item level 42.
-The 36 gems require an item of level 28, so they would fit in your ring, pop, easy, if you still had any.
-But the level 42 gem requires an item level of 32, so you can't put that into the ring, you now need to find another low level gem to put into it or that socket is now useless and if you have the higher level gems then that's all you're going to get dropping from now on.
The problem itself is that you always want to use the lowest gems as they will become useless quickly, but this isn't always the case and is something I keep doing.
