Wonderful. Sidescrolling, platforming combat that will remind you of the best that Sonic and Gunstar Heroes ever had to offer. Everything about this game drips sincerity. In a time where irony and self aware parody are done to death, it's extremely refreshing to play a game who's story and characters are fueled by a genuine love and pride in the material without obligatory 4th wall breaks.

-Beautiful Sprites
-Energetic Soundtrack
-Cool Boss Fights(remember boss fights?)
-Passionate Voiceovers

The story offers a good blend of personal, and big picture elements. As an adult who's been layered in cynicism, I could occasionally find myself nitpicking a cliche, or contrivance, but for someone as nitpicky as myself that's an impressive feat. Further, the aformentioned sincerity of the game makes these complaints dissolve. Every tone the game touches is done so in an unironic, passionate way. The cool is supposed to be cool, the joy joyful, and the sadness heartfelt. A wonderful testament to the fact indie doesn't have to mean snobby and joyless.

Moving through the stages is exciting and satisfying, thanks to curved surfaces, ramps, and your own air boost. The way you move is one thing that gets this game pegged as a Sonic clone, and while I'd be surprised if there wasn't a page or two taken from classic Sonic games, that's hardly a gripe. They took something that worked and did it one better. Stage designs are not overly punishing for you not memorizing them, as is the case in classic Sonic. Calling it a Sonic clone is a decent shortcut to explaining movement, but sells the game very short. If a Sonic game ever came out on the level of this game, the world would lose it's mind.

You'd have to be blind not to see where the character designs would fit right into Sonic's world, but they look great, and even if you don't look at this as anything but a fan-game it's still a joy to play. Watch the trailers, it's twice as fun as it looks. Recommended even at full price.
